Were the drugs in question illegal at the time of use? (seriously, I do not know)

I'm just saying, that in 5 years Gatorade could be called performance enhancing and Michael Jordan could be called a "doper" and stripped of his legacy and championships.

I still think this whole thing stinks because it is going to hurt Livestrong. I really don't have a Lance opinion either way (I was a fan of watching him ride a bike, but by no means do I model my life after him or any other athletes), but the kids who didn't dope themselves into cancer could get royally screwed if this Lance thing goes tits up.

I'm with JSatch, there's plenty of other pricks out there who do stuff that actually influences OUR daily life (financially, national security, politically). These loser grand jury people should be trying to sort those out, not chase ghosts from the past.

just my .02

I think we all knew that anyone who finished on the podium of the TdF over the last ten plus years were not getting there by physical effort alone.
Now, how do we talk about Floyd Landis? Not many of us had anything positive to say about his doping.
BTW where can I get some of that HGH? I'm getting old...

I want my tax dollars to go into this investigation to find out if Lance was doping or not. I pay taxes so the government can police these kinds of things. It is not okay to cheat. It's not okay to cheat even if everyone else is cheating. What motivation would anyone have to compete knowing that whoever got the best drugs will win. Instead of training and people would be experimenting with drugs. If lance armstrong did cheat, he should serve his time and have all of his medals taken away from him for cheating. And for anyone who says that that it's okay that he cheated because everyone else was doing it, or for whatever reason, if he's not good at cheating, he should not cheat at all. If he gets caught, it means that he wasn't good enough at cheating, and he should serve his time and lose his medals.
As for Livestrong, it will do well with and without armstrong.

Given that we know the Pros have been figuring out how to beat the tests for years--and testing is just now getting "good"--does it make you wonder if past cycling legends were doping? Take Miguel Indurain. I know he won 5 Tours--all in a row too. Is it likely he was doping?

Bjarne Riis won in 1996, a year after Indurain's last victory. Bjarne Riis admitted that he doped to win in '96. I doubt he was the first guy.

Don't think that I'm suggesting that it is/was okay to cheat. I think we just all knew that is what was going on.
I still don't trust Contador either..

Me either...He is the one guy I cannot stand in road racing. I know there was some shenanigans after last year. What ever happened to that?

It's the lying! Because everyone does it isn't an excuse. That is like trying to get out of a speeding ticket by saying that the flow of traffic was 80 mph. But YOU were caught!

If he had come clean and not lied about the doping, and turned the spot light onto the UCI or other governing body, and said that doping is expected and really is tolerated, then he would be a hero today for blowing the whistle on the sport. He has just decided that is super huge ego is bigger and more important than the sport itself.
