One of the groups that I ride with is putting on a big group ride out in the East County Backcountry coming up. It is a one way (basicly a shuttle) I think you desend like 3000ft more than you climb. It starts in Santa Isabel goes to some hole in the wall place out in the middle of no-where. (Camacho's Mexican Food) They have been doing this for a few years, but this it the first time they have gone "public" with the ride. They have worked out alot of bugs over the years, and I think it will be a great ride. The only thing is, the return busses will not leave Camacho's until all riders are finished, so, if you finish fast you will be sorta stuck at Camacho's drinking beer till the last slow poke arrives.

I'm not even sure if I'm doing it, because of the time involved, but I thought I'd throw it out there. This would be a good first century.

The date is Sat. April 30. The link has alot of info. Even the Camacho's Menu. There is a cold weater clothing drop. You can ditch you early morning warm gear at the bottom of Banner Grade, and change into cooler wear for the ride through the desert. They will even haul your post ride clothes to Camacho's so you can be comfortable on the ride back.

Thanks for this post. May be just the right thing for me, as I will get my cast off in early march. Not sure I will be fully back on the mountain bike by end of April, but road should be ok I hope. So I signed up. Anybody else?

So I signed up for this during time off the bike with my broken wrist. Now I am back on the bike, but not in shape for 100 miles on a road bike - especially the part about sitting for that long concerns me after getting a taste of it with a 40+ mile road ride a few weeks ago. ...and I found a way to spend 3 days on a mountain bike this coming weekend

So my spot on this century is up for grabs. Let me know, if you like to ride it - free lunch and all - and I will inform the organizers to give you my ticket. All you would need to do is sign the waiver once you get to the start site. A link to more info on the ride is in the post just above...

PM me!

This ride was a hoot. The only bummer was there were strong headwinds almost the whole ride. The organizer did a great job. Great support, mariachi band at the end, 3 tour buses and 2 movingvans to cart the bikes and riders back to Julian Pie Co. Good time.
