Anyone doing the San Diego Century in May? It will be my first and I am going to do the weekly Saturday training ride with the free Trek group and was wondering if any other DT folks were doing the same. The training plan calls for the Saturday long ride and several shorter rides during the week which I plan to do on the Mtn bike. Training is always more fun in numbers.

My longest ride is only 40 miles so it is really only 4-5 weeks until we start exceeding my limits. Also, for this coming weeks 20 mile ride I can ride from home near Lake Murrey and it still makes it work.

Let me know if you guys decide to do it and maybe we can meet up.

I will be there this morning as well, maybe I will see you there. I will be the tall guy wearing an AC DC jersey. Although based on this mornings temp I may be wearing a jacket since my guess is that we will nit take off real fast with 100+ people.

Here is another century coming up. http://www.plyitagn.com/camachos/ride.html

I ride with this group sometimes, they are all pretty cool, and acording to Sam (some of you Ramona folks might know Sam from Kirk's Bike shop) there are over 100 riders sighed up. The only thing is it's going to take all F'n day.

*bump*

SD Century is about 3 weeks away, and just wondering what everyone's strategy is for hydration/nutrition (pre-ride and during).

My endurance has been fine, but I had cramping problems during the Great Western and also the Arch ride. Finished both, but near the end I had to rely more on high cadence spinning rather than mashing/powering up the hills. Most likely it was due to insufficient water, but I'm thinking of trying lytes repletion such as endurolytes in addition. Also wanna try some Heed at some point before the actual ride.

I have switched to a two scoop bottle per hour of Perpetuem plus gel when the training rides got longer and because it was taking me a couple of days to recover while only takinf Heed. That was fine for me until the Great Western + 30 when my calf cramped up when climbing the wall. I will go out and get endurolytes before the ride this Saturday. After the ride I drink a bottle of Recoverite on the drive home and then I swing by Windmill Farms and get a giant turkey sandwich with all of the goodies. Truth be told I usually eat like a pig the rest of the weekend

Are you training with Trek? What group? I skipped the ride last Saturday and put some miles on my Stumpy which has been neglected while training for the century. Not much riding this week either so Saturday may be 75 miles of slow pull for me.

I miss watching people suffer on that small but brutal climb :D I found this stuff it is great, just add to your water or drink mix https://store.healthsoluteions.com/elete-electrolyte-add-in.html

We are with B2 riding with Cliff. My nutrition recently has been crap. I ate fried chicken and potato wedges during the Great Western. I drank beer during the Archipelago. Tomorrow I will have difficulty resisting Thrifty's Ice Cream during the second sag. See you tomorrow before the ride, Squid, because I may be dead by the end.

@MF, I'm going to get some elytes you recommended and spend the last few weeks before the century training myself to eat/drink properly.

It was a great day for a century yesterday. Finished up at 6:41/104.5 miles. A good headwind on the way to the coast but that was head down and pedal time anyway. It was a great experience training with the Teek group for my first century.

My MTB has felt a little left out the last few months, so it is time to get back in the dirt. Look forward to seeing some of you out there.

And an oh by the way..... The beast of the century in my opinion was a guy doing it on a bmx bike. Passed him going up Pomerado which he had to do out of the saddle as I assume he did for most of the climbs (6000 ft).

Jim, glad you enjoyed your ride. It was an awesome feeling finishing the ride. Thanks to Canaan and EMFC for their help along the way during training.

We witnessed and helped out with a bad accident on the Del Dios Hwy descent. There were shattered fragments of an iron lawn chair in the bike path. This gentleman on a carbon Roubaix could not avoid it and crashed, snapping his fork in half. We barely missed hitting him/his bike, since we were behind him when he went down. We had to call the EMTs, and they had Del Dios blocked off for a period of time.

Instead of posting a separate ride report since I didn't take that many pictures (or of the quality of Baja's), I'll post some below:

This guy had the best registrant number on the supposed Judgement Day:
Image

One of my favorite parts of the ride was Harmony Grove. Riding by La Costa, The Way Up, San Dieguito/"The Jungle" brought back fond memories of the Arch ride.
Image

The Purple Dragon wasn't any easier, just got up it faster.
Image

Descent back to the coast was fun!

Back at the coast. I think everyone sped up on the home stretch. Our tired legs were pulling >20mph eager to finish.
