I am four-eyed, and I don't really want contacts or lasik surgery. When going downill, the wind gets around my prescription sunglasses and causes tearing, which is quite dangerous because I can't see well, no matter how fast I blink. Does anyone else have this problem, and what solutions work?

I don't wear any sort of glasses when I ride, so I get the same issue at high speeds. I just close my eyes.

I get this as well, especially when it is chilly.

Haven't found much to do about it. I did invest in some "rec-specs" a few years back (not the full on Dr. J ones but nearly equally as ugly). They make some "biker" frames, including those with eye wraps to block the wind.

I got some Maui Jim's prescription sunglasses. They wrap more than most. I still get teary eyed on long fast descents, but it fixed most of the problem.

I wear contacts. Found that a pair of amber safety glasses purchased at United Rentals provides ample wrap around to keep the wind from my eyes.

There's really no way around it except to may be wear motocross goggles over your rx glasses. That's our eyes way of keeping themselves from drying out. I purchased a pair of Oakley A-frame goggles for my son to wear over his rx glasses and it works for him especially on chilly weather like this.

I checked with the optometry folks and they said my prescription was too heavy to make wrap around rx sunglasses. So I'm gonna look into goggles -- if I can use them also for downhill, even better. It'll be interesting seeing kitted out roadies' faces along 101 when I ride past them.

How come you don't want lasik/contacts? I got lasik after years of wearing contacts and I am so glad I did. One of the best investments I have ever made. No more worrying about losing glasses or ordering contacts. And lasik is a whole bunch cheaper now than when I got it a couple years ago.

P.m. me a copy of your prescription -I am a optician and run a full service ophthalmic lab in clairemont and specialize in higher rx's/wrap frames of course there are limitation's but i have not seen very many i could not do.

And for no prescription or low rx peeps i have found the oakley jawbones to be great on helping blocking the wind or even some cheap bobsters (which i might have few new pairs laying around) although i usually just wear my oakley gascan's (custom polaroid's of course haha) i have quite a few pairs and found for night rides i prefer lenses with a light yellow'ish tint.

If any one needs prescription lenses we do everything polaroid, transition(photocromatic),single vision, progressive's bifocal's and have the equipment to tint any color, ar,scratch coat etc. just let me know you would be surprised what my cost is versus Dr.'s price. although we are a wholesale lab and do not deal with frames i can get most at cost thru one of are account's.

I don't want any more of me shaved/cut/sliced/diced/lopped off if it won't grow back.

Just last year I was heading down an unfamiliar trail and my glasses didn't keep my eyes from watering pretty badly, needless to say, I couldn't see very well and when I saw the barbed wire fence across the trail (it was in a county park to keep cattle out) it was too late. One of the worse crashes I had last year.
Yeah, when the money gets better, I will need a prescription Jawbone.
(I have a mild prescription, but I still like to see!)

I find that the Oakely M Frames and lenses are good for road cycling. They don't have any frame on the sides or bottom to block your vision especally when looking back to change lanes. And they make prescription lenses for them, however, like all Oakley products they are not cheep. But it's better than getting hit by a truck. Good Luck!
