Maybe it is just me being paranoid and not really used to riding on the road but from what i understand you need to ride with the flow of traffic and the bike lane on the 52 between santo rd. and mast is only on the west bound side and i travel home east so i am facing traffic on the opposite side and i am not sure if it is legal riding with a light there, (and i have never seen any one else riding that section at night) hopefully that is a little more clear. Thanks

Is it legal to ride in the wrong direction on the road?
I too have done this for short distances. At nite I have only done it, before traffic reaches me.

I don't know for sure, but I assume the bike lane along the 52 is considered a separate bike path. Its not like the section of the 5 between Genesse and Sorrento Valley where you ride in the shoulder along the freeway with the flow of traffic. I don't believe there is anything wrong with riding in the bike lane with your lights. Just aim it low.

Besides, the 52 bike path is marked as both directions.

It is illegal to ride on the wrong side against the flow of traffic. I made that mistake once, and a roadie promptly warned me about he was ticketed for doing so.

The bike lane along the 52 up and over fortuna pass is for 2 way traffic. Your ok to ride against traffic in the bike lane only. I would point lights to the ground only as much as it's safe to do without impairing your seeing ability.
Riding the wrong way on regular streets is not a good idea. When cars are pulling out of driveway's they usually are not looking for oncoming cyclists heading the wrong way. It's a good way to get hit. If your riding the wrong way, and an accident occurs, you will be at fault no matter what the driver does / doesn't do.
