Brakes on a budget.

I'm looking at either Tiagra's or Sora's.

Will they get the job done? Will the Tiagra's perform significantly better than the Sora's?

The Sora's can be purchased for $18 and the Tiagra for $24.

Road brakes aren't really that different from each other. They are all dual pivot, side pull. I doubt you would be able to tell the difference between the two.

That's not really true.

Although SRAM and Shimano use primarily dual pivot designs, Campagnolo uses a dual pivot front, single pivot rear. Also aftermarket companies (Zero G, Bontrager speed limit, etc) are producing brakes using single pivot designs as well that uses a single or multi cam system to increase the mechanical force applied to the rim.

That said, I'd ebay a set of Shimano 105 calipers if price is a concern.

You are strictly correct, not ALL road brakes are dual pivot, side pull, but most are, and the ones that dennis is looking for will be dual or single pivot. He's not looking for a $300 set of calipers.
