Planning on doing a metric century for the Tour De Poway and I have a dilemma. Should I ride with the toe clips that are on my bike now and light running shoes or remove my spd pedals put them on the road bike and use my heavy mtb shoes? What will be best?

If I were you I'd go with the SPD pedals and bike-specific shoes. Being on the bike that long, you'll want shoes with rigid soles. Good luck with the ride.

SPD with mountain bike shoes, no doubt. Your mtb shoes can't be that heavy. That is what I did last year for the regular century and do for all of my commuting. Good luck on the ride!

Put the SPD's on it and go. I'll give you two reasons: One because you already are comfortable with what you have and you don't have to re-learn how to get in and out.
Two: road shoes are stupid: they are hard to walk in for just a few feet, what if you have break down and have to walk, the super zooty carbon sole road shoes might as well be ice skates. I'm 99% sure I'm doing the Tour de Poway this year. If you want to ride some of the route, I'm riding a few days a week, and it's all ways nice to ride with someone.

I have had that ride (The Great Western) on the todo list for a while. If I can, I'll go. I did this today: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/43034449

Being a a roadie and all you sure do fight it.

You want to ride this weekened? Bring your climbing legs :flame:

for the OP, mtn shoes will do just fine and forget that metric stuff just go for the real 100, it's fun.

I was getting nervous thought it was in Sept. and I have not ridden over 20mi at a time in awhile. I have been commuting to work but that is 14 mi separated by 8 hours in front of a computer then 14 mi home. So it looks like I am going to represent with my baggy shorts and mtb gear.
