I was checking my progress in the roadie world. I have been riding my ass off (literaly) I have some numbers to share. I took my first road ride in March. As of today 7/26, I have ridden, 2,330 miles, climbed 117,097 feet, and burned aprox.147,963 calories. I have also lost 25 lbs. I am suprised how fast that added up. I think I'm going to shoot for 4500 to 5000 miles for the year this year and a quarter mile of vertical (250,000').

WAY TO GO!

By the way. a mile is 5,280'. So wouldn't your goal of 250,000' climbing actually be closer to 47 miles? Am i missing something?

Nice!! Congrats!!

You got me curious so I added up my totals--all dirt though. Since I got back into riding in February after my ankle surgery and recovery, I've ridden 1,414.61 miles with 139,718 feet of climbing and 130,096 estimated calories burned. Of those totals, only 140 miles and 12,000' of climbing occurred in February. The rest has been since March. In that same period of time I've lost 62.1 lbs.

My goal is 200 rides, 250,000 feet of climbing and 2,000 miles for the year--which will only be an 11 month year since January was a total loss due to surgery and recovery. July 15th was my middle point and I'm well over halfway on all totals so far!!

I use a Garmin Edge 305 and use SportTracks software to track my totals. I just got a road bike and hope to add some road miles to that!!

Good job -- keep it up. I rode 4,550 road miles in one year (way back when) and was down to about 6% body fat. Be careful not to overdo it -- racking up those miles can be addictive, can't it? I'm still trying to find the right mtb/road balance, but I haven't been on the road bike since July 4.

Don't listen to him -- I was a roadie for 13 years, and shaved my legs once. Felt like a fool and never did it again. There's no real purpose in it unless you're getting massages between stages of a grand tour or think you'll need to treat some road rash soon.

sorta... when i am travelling or if my mileage is otherwise high, i find shaving allows me to massage myself much better. you don't have to be a pro racer to benefit. but right now, i shave because i like how it looks

Another reason that leg shaving's unnecessary for me -- I find my legs look best when I'm wearing long pants.

I don't really plan on masasaging myself, not on the legs anyway! And if that's gona happen I'll be needing something better than shaving cream. I did this today.
