there is one other reason, and that is to facilitate the dressing of wounds. In road biking wounds seem to cover more area (road rash) probably because of the speed. I found during those days long ago that crashing on pavement and hair are a formidable combination, and shaving your wound is never fun.

It can be a hassle if you have ape-ish legs as it will be high maintenance also.

Actually, I covered that point in my post. The one time I shaved legs came after I healed up after a crash. I heartily agree that caring for road rash on hairy legs is a miserable experience. Even so, I decided I'd rather be very careful and do my best to avoid crashes rather than manscape my legs often enough to make caring for road rash easier.
