Favorite Trails: The one I'm riding today.
So since I've recently lost a TON of weight -- all the weight I gained because of my ankle surgery and then some -- I've been tossing around the idea of getting a road bike.

This morning I was at Bicycle Warehouse for a rear hub warranty issue. While I was there I was looking at road bikes and telling the mechanic and the manager that I was interested in going over to the dark side/going full retard/etc. I looked at some new Giants and Felts and mentioned I have been looking at used stuff too. Took care of my hub issue and left.

This afternoon the mechanic calls me and says an older guy was in the store asking if they bought used bikes. They don't, but remembered I wanted one so they told him to hold tight and called me up. Luckily I was in the area and swung by.

The guy was in his late 60's and said he had the bike for a few years and paid $1200 for it new. He had upgraded the wheels and the bike was super clean. His doctor told him riding was killing his hips AND he also needed money quick to pay for a traffic fine. Turns out the bike is even my size. He said he only wanted $300 for it.

The manager took me aside and told me to buy it as it was worth way more. So, I left to hit an ATM and I'm now the owner of a road bike. I purchased a couple bottle cages to go with the paint scheme. I did a little research when I got home and found it's a 2005 Trek 1500 SLR.

I can't believe the string of events: I tell them this morning I want a bike, guy comes in a few hours later and it's even my size. Not bad for $300!!!

You should get a road bike too Italo. It would be SO much easier for you to push a 19 pound bike up paved climbs instead of a Demo 8 up dirt climbs. Just sayin'.

Nice! Now you need a USPS kit to match.

Tom is a great guy. Good to see they hooked you up with the deal, rather than pressuring you to buy a new bike from them.

I'll pass on the lycra shorts--I'm that guy wearing baggies on the road bike. I will however rock this jersey:
