just beware of sand/silt/dirt on pavement when you're out of the saddle pumping :)

How do you even ride a bicycle on an unpaved surface?

No, not really. It's more of the fact that I:
1) Have been track racing all summer.
2) Have to drive to trailheads where as I can ride my road bike from my front door (I really hate riding my MTB on the road).

sometimes it's just easier to pound out the miles on the road...you can almost always double the amount of miles you would on dirt and it's a good cardio workout. Just think how cool it'll be after the rains and the trails are closed...and you're itching to ride :)

For me if it rains here, it snows in the mountains so I go leave my tracks in the snow.
