Wife and I were out on our road ride today, thought i would take her through Aliso Creek Trail up to Cook's Corner to give her a taste of another trail.

All went well as we started to head back; those familiar w/ this trail it's all uphill from Aliso Wood Canyon to Cook's but the ride back is sweet downhill grade most of the way.

We were near Los Aliso and Rockfield when we were coming up on this short ramp climb up to the higher level of the bike trail.  it's a narrow little corridor so I got up out of my saddle and pedaled to get some speed.  as i was approaching the end of that retaining wall, i must have hit a sand patch because i washed out and my bike went to one side (creek) and i went the other (bike lane).  My wife said i hit the wall parallel with my head on the left side and when i landed i must have landed flat on my back because the back of my Atmos helmet is blunt and cracked.  Add to that my wife was right behind me and couldnt slow down in time and my poor wife ran over my hit my lower back square on and went OTB and landed on top of me and only had a little pain from the handle bar digging into her tummy as she went OTB.

Went to the ER because i did black out and my right knee doesnt feel right if i put any sort of lateral load on it feels like it "pops" out of place.  they xray'ed and found nothing broken but knee is swelled up so they cant check for ligament damage; scheduling a follow up visit w/ an orthopedic specialist this week.

So now i'm on pain meds, knee immobilized and crutches LOL im so pissed because i was doing really good and my fitness was getting up there too.

Here's pics :

And my helmet sacrificed itself for me, think i can still use it? I'M KIDDING

thanks for all the well wishes...my wife is amazing she didnt have a scratch on her she does feel a little sore from yesterday but most of that was from the 27 mile ride we had done.

My back lower back is pretty swollen today, you can feel the puffiness so i've got a heating pad on the couch. The knee is getting iced got it strapped into my knee immobilizer to help w/ the swelling there.

Hey Foo,

Hope you and your wife are well....and you heal quickly!
I have been down 3 times on the road......once hit by a car. I chipped the bone in the same area as your bruise about 3 in to the right. Have them check it......if so it will never seem to heal and will swell up every time you bump it. Let me know if i can help since I have so much experience

thanks bud, they took xrays of my knee and i'm good from what they can see. that being said, the tendon? ligament that connects the thigh to the lower leg on the outside is swollen you can poke it and it feels puffy

Update:

I have a slight tear in my MCL have the forest gump brace on and it's getting better, each day my knee is able to bend more and more. Back looks horrid still but the swelling is going down. Wife went out this weekend and did more road rides while i sit at home to watch the kids :(

wife stopped and took a pic of the crash site. see that wall, my bike was to the left of that wall and i was strewn across the bike path a little ways pass the light color patch of concrete.
