So, I built this ROAD Bike and all my friends(Roadies) don't think its a road bike since I don't have drop bars. I used to ride drop bars back in the day but I feel more comfortable with flat bars. I remember in the 90's, these type of bikes were considered speed bikes and great for long distances like when I rode from San Diego to San Francisco. What do you guys think? Do I have a road bike? Weight is 17 pounds. Come to think of it, TT bikes don't have Drop Bars.

Were you wearing baggy shorts with the chamois sewn in it or something when you showed up with this for your roadie friends to see?

Maybe it needs skinnier tires.

Looks bad ass!!!

You rode from SD to SF. Why do you care what your friends think? That's badass in my book.

What he said!! ^^^^

I say road bike. Scott makes a flat bar road bike called the Speedster. Jenson sells it and it's listed under the Road Bikes section. I know other manufacturers do to.

Of course it's a road bike, but you already knew that. One question -- doesn't someone make a carbon fiber bike bell?

I was Outbidded on the Carbon Fiber Bike Bell :D Currently debating on getting the EC90 SLX fork. I will be stuck with this fork with no buyer like my Bontrager Carbon Cross/Touring Fork. $50 if you mention you saw it in Road Treaders. I don't know if I want to go smaller than 23 tires though. The roads on my commute is a bit rough.

8.5" steerer tube 1 1/8 $50

Definitely a mountain bike with skinny tires. The slime tubes gave it all away

I like the A530 so I can use my MTB shoes for commuting. No need to buy road shoes. Plus on days I ride to the park with my son, I can just use flip flops. :D

Almost bought the Dura Ace pedals that someone on CL was selling.

I like. The XTR shifters are compatable with road derailers?

Yes. The rear specially(same as that with mtb). with the front, it works only with Double Cranksets. in the low gear position, there will be a little bit of slack because the pull on an mtb derailleur is a lot longer than that of a road. The slack is not noticeable.

Why don't you install disc brakes on it?

This is NOT a road bike. A hybrid, Maybe, but not a road bike. And you aren't passing me with this thing. Tribikes have Aero Bars, not FLAT bars. :hello:
