Just cut down on those t bone and porterhouse steaks and eat more veggies and hang out more with Darryl on those 70+ miles rides and you be in great shape soon.

Just stay on dirt.

I am always amused at how controversial the road vs mtb debate can be, and the positions taken.

Luna, if you have ridden a road bike and like it and want more, you don't need us to say it's OK. The question is: do you like riding on the road? If yes, then do what you want. You will ride more since you have another option, esp. when the trails are wet. If you're not sure, borrow one and find out. If not, then why even consider it.

I actually think this debate actually centers more on the clothing surrounding roadies. I let my wife worry about clothes, for real.

I have also noticed a huge improvement in my mtb skills because now that my endurance base has increased, I have more power to handle the technical stuff.

If for nothing else, this should be a major motivating factor for MTB'ers to build up their endurance. You know those times on a climb when you have been pushing pretty hard and then there's a really tough technical section and you just don't have the juice to power through it. Well, getting in better shape will definitely help you with that.

My endurance increased so much once I got the road bike and haven't looked back. I couldn't imagine not having one at this point.

On a much, much more serious note. How many of you want to live longer? How many of you have kids that you want to be and continue to be a positive influence on their lives? Going out and riding a road bike isn't the secret. It's living a healthy lifestyle. What's more important: Having In-N-Out today or seeing your grandchildren grow up? Think about it.

In-N-Out is the reason I have a road bike!

It's like the perfect reward system. More Riding = More Beers. win win.

I can not agree more with both of you guys. I have lost about 50-60lbs total from my heaviest. I seriously had size 40 pants. I have had alot of people come ask me "what is your secret" and I tell them there is no secret... Just find something you like to do that is active and do it and don't eat crap.

Think road riding may be boring? Go climb Palomar, then descend Palomar, rip down through Harbison Canyon, find a day with nothing to do and take 20 bucks a frame pump and a couple of tubes and head east with the intent to not be back until dark.
