The Rohloff hub in the back uses a grip-shift type shifter to move through its 14 gears. Those don't play well with drop bars, but Hubub makes an adapter that allows you to mount it where you'd put a Barcon. Once you get used to it, it's no easier or harder to use than a barcon. In fact, it's pretty nice having access to all 14 gears in one place.
