I picked up a beautiful Masi Speciale 105 on Thursday. I have always loved the look of classic road bikes and love the ride of steel. Masi was kind enough to blend these two together with a bit of modern technology. The frame is really a beauty with the rear dopouts being lugged and Masi being stamped into the BB shell(nice details). On top of that, the paint is amazing, I call it Bass Boat Burgundy. Looks so good in the sunlight. Rode it to work on Friday and enjoyed every minute of it. My commute is 19.9 miles and I got there in about 53 minutes. Did a little bit of work while I was there(basically I was killing time until I could ride home). Rode back towards the house, dropped off my commuter stuff and took it out for another 22 miles. Ended up with 62 miles for the day. Bike rode wonderfully the whole way. Only things that will take some getting used to are the position and handling. I know the tires will hold but I still don't fully trust them....yet. Camera's being stupid so you only get one pic for now.

Nice ride! My cousin is all mixed up in the "fixie" scene and I've seen a few Masi conversions that were real lookers

Nice ride! Based on what I have heard and read about your prowess, I don't think your membership in any kind of bike club was ever questioned, but rather feared.

Didn't Dave Stoller ride a Masi in the movie breaking away? I hope you still have all your leg hairs. Just put the razor down and walk away.

He will hold off for a while and then he will do it. Hell I did mine this morning.

Where did you get it? Would love to pick up a nice steel road bike and the Masi interests me, but haven't seen one to test ride.

The photo doesn't do it justice. The Bass Boat Burgundy looks sweet in person. Really nice bike!

Cal Coast carries Masi. They have quite a few to choose from. I am obviously partial to this one. It's steel and it's beautiful and unique as far as all the bikes out there today. I can't wait to show up to my first group ride wearing my Mtn. Sidi's, old Mtn. helmet with the visor taken off, hairy legs and XT pedals. They who laugh...will not laugh for long. And yes, the Masi Gran Criterium was the bike ridden in Breaking Away.

Steel is real. My first bike was a Merlin* lugged steel frame with full Campy Record components (friction shifters on the downtube) and sew-ups. White with red striping around the lugs and within the cut-outs in the lugs -- it was a rolling piece of art and rode like a dream. A collision with a big dog pushed the front wheel back so far it buckled the downtube and bowed the top tube. I loved that bike so much, I kept the mangled mess in my garage for 6-7 years before I threw it away. I have a full-carbon rig now that is very nice but doesn't have the same spirit as the Merlin.

*line of racing frames made by Bob Jackson (better known for his touring bikes).
