I have been getting into shape. Unfortunately that shape is round. I wanted to get back to riding more but after a slow roll yesterday on the lower parts of Black Mountain, I realized how far out of shape I really am.

I saw that Thursday is national "Ride your bike to work" day. I have challenged myself to ride into work for the week to help jump start my return to reasonable shape. I only have 8 miles to my office, via road. Since I have long ago stopped road riding, I only have my trusty Santa Cruz to make the journey. 8 miles of road on a full suspension 2.35 tire bike can eat up a lot of energy. I think it had to be equivalent to 10 miles on a real road bike, right? The ride home I wont be so pressed for time so I might take a detour through Black Mountain.

Don't know if I will survive all 5 days but we will see. Anybody else playing along with the Ride your bike to work day?

Due to the fact that I drive about 650 miles per week I would have to say no, I won't be doing that. If I could ride to work I would as long as I wasn't a sweaty mess when I get there. (Which I don't think is possible)
I will be riding in the evenings as much as I can.

Ride that bike Bankerboy. Ya know, I know where you live

I am riding "Ride Your Bike to Work" day, albeit only 3 miles. I am fortunate to be able to ride to work often. One of the best things I have ever done was to move close to where I work. I have an old Specialized P2 dirtjumper that I commute on to make it more fun. It also makes me appreciate my 9r when I am on it.

I've always wanted to participate and I just might this year. It's 19 miles one way though so the weapon of choice would be the road bike. I just hate the route though. It's basically from jackson drive MTRP entrance to sorrento valley.

Ride to Old Town and pay for the Coaster to Sorrento Valley and ride up the hill? Not a total ride to work but maybe (assuming you get the time tables correct AND they allow bikes on?) it would work?

Ride the MTB! Through MTRP, across Clairemont Mesa Bl to Ruffin, up Kearny Villa, through PQ.

Or stay on Clairemont Mesa, drop into Marian Bear, follow to Genesse, up and then drop down off Eastgate Mall to Roselle.

Thats a long ride to ride in and home in one day though.

I thought about this, they do take bikes. My friend often commutes like this from closer area (North Park).

And the problem with that is........?????????

Sounds like a perfect day. Probably should swing by Green flash or another brewery to make it a trifecta.

I used to commute in to Pt. Loma from Tierrasanta, 16 miles on the most direct route. During the longer daylight seasons I'd go home via PB / Mt. Soledad, Torrey Pines Rd., La Jolla Village / Miramar Rd. and back south on Kearney Villa Rd. That was another 30 miles. Good times.

Now I live 1.2 miles from work :|

Well, day 3 and I am still alive. Funny how much work 6 miles on the road each way is....

Tonight I might get "lost" since Black Mountain lies between myself and work. If only there were some trails there......

I think coaster is free if you have a bike on Thursday, fyi.

I'm planning my commute via LPQ for bike to work day, normal route is all dirt. They have a pit stop at waterfall this year. Also worth going to the qualcomm pitstop.

Hit the Sony pit stop in Rancho Bernardo. Got my sticker and shirt.

I remember why I gave up road riding all those years ago. There is new construction in a lot near the pit stop. Lots of big dirt trucks going in and out of the lot. One decided, out of the blue, to pull over into the bike lane and drive 3 miles an hour. He nearly pinched the rider in front of me. Fortunately we saw the truck coming over. The rider in front jumps onto the sidewalk to avoid getting crushed. I hung back and rode slow, eventually pulling into lanes of traffic to get around.

Annoyed, I yelled to get out of the bike lane. He truly was clueless to the road and traffic. He then proceeded to pull back into traffic and proceed down the road. Guess he had to answer his cell phone? People are just scary sometimes

On the plus side, yesterday evening, I hit Lilac to Ahwee to Lusardi crossing Carmel Valley and home. It was nice to play in the dirt as part of the commute.
