I've been having a chronic case of the flats on my road bike. Get a flat, change it, finish the ride, top off/check air pressure before next ride out of habit not a loss of air pressure, get a ways into next ride and again tube goes flat over 30-60 secs. Always check the tire to make sure nothings still stuck in it. After getting two flats within a 1/4 mile I examined the rim as well and there was nothing notable. Immersed the tube in water tonight to locate the puncture and it was on the rim side of the tube. There's nothing abnormal with the spokes/rim tape in that area. I'm stumped. Any ideas?

Could you be nipping it with a tire iron when your changing it? Maybe a burr on the side of the rim?
The problem could be easily fixed by riding the MTB

1) doubt it. the combo of wheels/tire I run I can mount the tube and tire with my fingers.
2) had a burr when I got the bike that lead to the same issue, filed it down and all has been well. nothing now.
3) yes. figured it wouldn't take long for that remark. ;).

Gonna change out the stock rim tape to Velox this weekend and see what happens.

Are the tubes new? I read somewhere that the rubber bands around tubes can cause holes in the tube. Weird but I have read it a couple of times. Could be urban legend

Fairly new and I remove the rubber bands when I put them in my saddlebag. Thanks for your ideas.

Have you run your bare fingers around the inside of your tire casings hard several revolutions to check for mini sharps intruding? Sometimes tiny pointy things get stuck in there that are not real obvious but over time puncture the tube. Got a Tracer 275? nice!

The rubber bands that sometimes come with a tube don't cause holes, nor will ones cut from old tubes. But regular rubber bands from the store or off your newspapers will damage a tube.
