training on a road bike is far superior to training with bowling balls. riding with cars is a drag, but it's easy fitness and strength.

That is a nice set up on a road bike. What ride were you on?

was a tour through some of western europe. that particular picture is on the road to col d'iseran from the val d'isere side, the day after the tour de france finished at tignes.

a seatpost rack is far from ideal (it broke twice), but it was a good trip anyways. i wanted to travel fairly light without being weight-weenyish about things. i got a crazyguy journal at http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/2636 if that's something remotely interesting. my 2006 western us trip (mostly a national park tour on a rigid fisher, pulling a bob) is there too.

Schwinn Peloton carbon frame/fork with mostly Shimano 105 components. It is used for commuting and when the trails are wet, although road riding can sometimes be fun (WTF?) and I will go for a spin from the house.

Oh there Ok, if you like full Gatorade bottles, where I live in South Orange Park (Fleming Island) there is a nice roadie community and the roads are shared. Just dont try to ride in the city or the westside

Mine.

I know nothing of road bikes and this was a hand-me-down. A good friend of mine, who knows his bicycles, told me this is almost vintage. 1970s Scwhinn. Put together old-style and old-style heavy too.

I replaced the handlebar tapes because I needed some padding and went with a camo color (black, white and grey). Didn't quite like it cause it totally kills the old school look, but it's practical so I'll keep it for now and will look for another one, similar to what it had in the picture, later on.

It's not that light -- it's a 58 cm frame and it weighs about 19 lbs. with everything shown in the picture but the seat bag. My 56 cm Fuji Roubaix Pro (Reynolds 853 frame with a carbon fork) weighed about the same. The upside of this bike is that it's laterally stiff but still pretty plush. The steel frame had a really comfortable ride, but was pretty whippy.

I'm willing to bet that the wheelset (which came stock on the bike) and the tires I chose for anti-flat qualities (Specialized Armadillos) contribute more than a little bit to this bike's portliness.

Edit: Just double-checked the weight: 19.5 lbs.
