Today's stage was the supposed to be the toughest stage due to the two big climbs up the Gavia and Stilvio but it was the weather that really made it tough the temperature at the top of the Stilvio was 32 degrees and snowing. Snow banks were piled up at least 25 feet on the side of the road The pink jersey changed hands today to Nario Quintana. Partially because of social media, the race directors were going to naturalize the descent of the Stilvio because of the dangerous conditions, but chose not to. But the team cars were checking instagram and twitter both of which were reporting there would be a naturalization, some teams told their riders not to race down the 16 mile descent, and some teams told their riders to continue to race. That caused a 2:00 gap in the front of the race and pretty much wiped out any chance for the guys that were gaped off to get back to the lead group. Cadel Evans and the race leader Rigoberto Uran were in the second group. Overall the Giro is kind of weak on talent this year because all the heavy hitters are making a go at the tour latter on this summer. But those guys today probably couldn't wait for a hot shower after racing 4 1/2 hours in the snow and freezing rain.

If the teams are relying upon twitter to make strategic race decisions, then they deserve to lose. There are very few facts on twitter, just opinions.

Still sounds like an awful stage. We need some stages like that on the Tour of California to make it interesting!
