Wow!

It looks like he came out of his lean and headed right for them. He could have passed them on either side if needed. Pretty crazy Chit.
Hope those riders are OK

I think if the cyclist had an airbag, he would have been saved.

Damn, that sucks.

I saw a new ghost bike while out on my road bike on Sunday. Don't know the story behind it and I'd like to think it was a misappropriate use of the memorial, for a heart attack or something, rather than car v bike as it was on a straight stretch of road with an ample paved shoulder. Sure the odds of getting hit are low (made lower by wise route selection) but mtbing has been becoming a larger and larger % of my riding in part due to this sort of thing.

Hope all involved make speedy recoveries.

Was it at El Camino and La Costa Blvd in Carlsbad?

Yeah, just a bit north of that intersection. And my use of the word 'misappropriate' in my previous post was in no way meant to disparage whatever occurred. Only, that ghost bikes usually mean car v bike.

I just watched a million videos of guys crashing in almost that exact spot. It looks like they usually crash into the gaurdrail.

And czech this one out, rider crashes in same spot as the cyclists were in first vid. @ 1min. is that the same chick? Same outfit too? :domo:

Almost some sweet hip action, check his head hitting the bike

@ 20 seconds

OMG Leg!!!

I'm amazed the bicyclist got up and walked away (well, he eventually walked over to the ambulance).

  • His head whipped back on impact with the moto rider's body = whiplash, neck injury
  • He landed hard on the back of his head and his upper back = possible concussion, bruising and road rash on upper back
  • His entire body folded over on itself, until his taint almost hit his nose = lower back injury, at the very least a stinky nose
  • Then he slid for several feet on his ass = bruised and contused tailbone

The moto rider took a pretty good shot to the side of his head on impact with the pavement, too.

This would make a good PSA for wearing helmets (for both sports).

did the biker need to still be on his vehicle in order to also garner points for the 2nd cyclist?
