In the paper today they expanded on the article mentioning he may testify against others, and his legal team is making deals with Landis, the Newspaper (Times I think), he's worth $100M, the statute of limitations for perjury, etc.

Betsy Andreau is quoted saying he kicked Frankie to the curb and basically canned his career when he refused to dope with him. Nothing yet on him reaching out to those he tried to ruin. Alan, nice to hear from you again, btw.

Setting aside for purposes of making this point the human suffering he has clearly wrought in his defensive stage, has any sport figure done so much damage to a sport than he?

If he gets sponsorship back, it will only be in the confessional. I can see it now, little Lance in bib shorts yelling at Mark McGuire to "put down the needle, Mark!" in OWN's new series "World's Biggest Ex-PED User."

Why so hard on the guy?

I think we all feel that he is a brash, arrogant, manipulative...... on and on. I guess the point I want to make is that we all knew he was doping didnt we? We all knew the guys he was beating were doping didnt we?

I have never been a big Lance fan simply because he always seemed like an asshole, but I did appreciate watching him win those races. And I agree with the author this article http://www.bicycling.com/news/featured-stories/injustice-all?page=0,0 when he says "...I also said and still believe he was the greatest Tour de France champion of my era, a skilled bike racer with insane focus and a genetic gift that revealed itself when he was still in his teens, and that generations from now he will be revered as one of cycling’s complex but astounding legends...."

Of course he is a type-A jack ass who cheated. But having not ever thought differently about him, I have a hard time hating him now. Its crazy that I defend him now because to my friends and family outside of bicycling, I have always been the guy who poo-pooed in the punch bowl with my opinion that he is probably doping and most definitely a dickhead. This while everyone in America was in love with boy wonder and wearing those ridiculous wrist bands.

I appreciate and respect Lance because in my mind he is the guy who won those seven races. PEDs or not, he worked his ass off. In one year making an impromptu ride through a farm field that easily could have ended his tour, in another being pulled down by a fan's hand bag. Dehydrated and bonking during one stage he bluffed his way to the end and lost little time. And in those seven years he only popped positive once, afaik, and that was at the Tour de Suisse. Thats quite a feat.

He is a helluva meticulous, detail-oriented scientist of bike racing and a glutton for punishment. He may have done EPO and testosterone, but after that he went out and rode the shit out of his bike.

It's sounding like Lance is going to take some People/Companys down with him tomorrow night. Allegedly, it was Nike that paid the UCI, $500K hush money for the positive test cover up in 1999. There is even talk of the IOC suspending cycling for the Olympics. It seems the UCI can't be trusted, the IOC doesn't want a possable "dirty sports" involved in the Olympics. They are still dealing with fallout from past Olympic doping cheeters.

What a mess!!!

I agree with everything you wrote about his bike riding and doping, but disagree with your easy dismissal of his foundation. You can't seem to see beyond the bike. "After that" he had an idea for a "ridiculous wristband" that gave hope and inspiration to millions of cancer patients and their families, led to increased cancer research, and raised nearly half a billion dollars. A "Live Strong" wristband is a simple idea, but far from ridiculous.

Yep!!! The IOC might drop cycling from the Olympic Games. I would have to think that this would include Mt. Biking as well, as it is the UCI itself that is in question.

I hope it doesn't go that far. He has already hurt so many directly, an Olympic ban would be tragic for literally thousands of cyclists across the world. I also enjoyed watching him race, very much so. It was thrilling. But it is hard to stomach all the damage falling our from his deception. One thing that mitigates it is he was not alone in that quite frankly all sport nowadays is hero based and propping up heros at almost any cost is the norm rather than the exception.

I deserve to be called out on that.

I didnt mean to down play the good done by the foundation. I undersatnd that the awareness brought forth by those wristbands has untold value for the cancer community.

I am just a cynic because I wish it didnt take a pink ribbon or a yellow wristband to bring funding and awareness and compassion to the cause of cancer research.

They really are drunk, that chick on their poster is nasty. I've seen bigger legs on a Holocaust victim.
