Amgen Tour of California is holding a Media Advisory Event, today 11/27 at 1:00pm at Escondido City Hall (Council Chamber) located at 201 N. Broadway! Anyone care to guess what they will be announcing? Come on by and be one of the first to know the details...

My guess...
Stage-1. Escondido to Murrieta via Palomar Mountain.

Tour of California officials expected to reveal 2013 route Tuesday

Bee Staff Reports

All signs indicate the Amgen Tour of California is headed in a new direction.

Host cities are expected to be announced Tuesday afternoon in a joint announcement out of Southern California, and the location for this news could spell a change in course for the May 12-19 racing spectacle.

Tour organizers will convene with officials from Escondido and Murrieta for "an exciting announcement regarding the 2013 Amgen Tour of California," according to velonews.com and cyclingnews.com.

The press conference has been scheduled for 1 p.m.

Modesto, Turlock and Sonora are among those hoping to hear their name called today.

Escondido is located in San Diego County and served as the overall finish to the 2009 race. Because of its involvement with Tuesday's announcement, Escondido figures to play a prominent role in next year's race.

If Escondido is selected to host the start it will mark the first time in the tour's eight-year history the race has traveled south to north.

I recall that Santa Rosa has traditionally been the start area for the Tour de Cali. However, with Santa Rosa homeboy Leipheimer now banned, it makes sense they might want to do things differently.

I still am amazed Amgen the maker of EPO is the lead sponsor! Maybe they will have some free samples...

I bet it would be the first ATC to have a Mariachi band start the race..

Might be a great way to generate some revenue for the site if DT sold T Shirts/Riding shirts, stickers, etc. 8)

Time trial in Esco for Stage 1.
Stage 2 is Murrieta to Palm Springs.
I'm gonna sign up as a volunteer for one or both stages.

wonder what the tt course is for the start. A blast up and through San Elijo Hills would be sick...too bad SEH isn't Escondido

I do that ride on Wednesdays. Take it to the top of Double Peak. Seen a few teams train on that hill over the past several years.
