Rosarito Ensenada 50 Mile Fun Bicycle Ride

It's on Saturday, May 5. My wife and I are going and staying overnight in Ensenada. Anyone else going this year?

Stayed at the Rosarito Beach Hotel on Friday night. First time I've stayed there and I give it a thumbs up

It was a fun ride. At 50 miles long and with a big hill in the middle, it wasn't an easy ride, but as long as you prepare for it, it's not too bad. They close off the southbound lane of the free road to Ensenada to vehicle traffic so you don't have to contend with cars, but there's lots of bike traffic you have to watch out for. Both my wife and I want to do it again in September.

Here's me and my wife and a friend of ours near the start.

That's me on the left.

Here's a picture of the big hill which I took the next day on the way back.

On the ride website, they say it's a 7 or 8% grade hill, but I measured it as a 6.2% grade hill on Google Earth and it only felt like about a 6% grade when I climbed it. I used a 34 tooth chainring and a 28 tooth rear cog on a 1989 steel-frame road bike to climb it and didn't have any problem. Lots of people on mountain bikes climbed it in their granny gear. Lots of people walked too.

Here's the finish line in Ensenada.

Hussong's in Ensenada.

Nice !!!.. I went to Ensenada and did this ride. I was looking for something more extreme so we did 100 miles (Ensenada - Rosarito - Ensenada). We started at 7:00AM from Ensenada and arrived to Rosarito around 9:45AM. The official ride start at 10:00AM so we re-start our ride at 10:00AM and arrive to Ensenada around 1:00 PM. I will be there again in September.

A century sounds pretty extreme to me.

We're thinking about doing it again in September on a tandem. We have to buy the tandem first though.
