Me and a couple others are planning on maybe doing black mountain for our night ride this evening. None of us have really ridden out there. I looked at the strava map of it last night and just wanted to get a general idea of what are typical up trails and what the best down trails are. If anyone wants to guide, we typically start around 7:30.... Which is usually pretty late for people.

One of the down hill sections that you might is located on the front west side of the mountain. I think some call it widow maker and it's one of the racers & chasers segments. The other two are down miners loop which can be reached right off the top section of Nighthawk trail. Going right (east) is faster and going left (west) is more technical with a couple of switch backs. Both trails meet together and head down to the paved parking lot. When at the parking lot you can continue west and find a trail that ends near the bottom of the road leading up to the parking lot. (I think some call it lilac)

Are the ups worth the downs?

I've been poking around on the 'racers and chasers' website this may be our best bet to get a good loop together.

I'll have to look much closer and see what's the what? Maybe our mapper can navi us around if we can get this route printed out?

Andy, yes! Black Widow, Miner's, Lusardi are fun trails.

I agree that they are worth it, even though some "ups" are HAB's (for most, not just for me). A lot of the trails -- the former 4WD roads -- don't have much flow, but still yield a lot of fun.
