So what should we do us mere mortals to get ready for the ride, my goal is to finish it so I'm riding most Tuesdays and Thursdays when I can and focusing on the ride, that means less stops(no pictures) and push myself and also will get a longish ride on the weekends.
So post here what's your game plan, post your rides.

Jose, I don't think you have anything to worry about. But if you're interested in some training rides that incorporate part of the Archipelago route, let me know. I'll be doing several over the next few weeks since I live right next to the portion of the route that goes through the Crosby/Lusardi/Black Mountain/HWY 56 area.

I plan on riding in the afternoons, after 3:00 PM or so. Flexible on days for the most part, but trying to go every Friday if I can swing it.

I ride in North County afternoons most every weekday and most Saturdays. I'm going to be shifting my attention to primarily the trails on the Archipelago route between now and the ride.

Let me know whenever you can make it up here.

I would focus on getting your mileage up, just to get used to being in the saddle all day. I know that was the biggest challenge for me and will be this year again. We should put a ride together for the weekend of April 1/2 and/or April 8/9 that would cover some good mileage (25-30 mi). We could ride La Costa to Elfin and back or a large loop around MTRP and Sycamore. Indian Creek, BLT and Noble would also do the job.

Matt those are good suggestions and I'll be interested for sure.

Doug and James or anyone is riding this coming Saturday morning let me know and since my fitness level is pretty bad right now I will like to focus on riding miles and getting to know that area that you guys are riding.

It's supposed to rain so we'll have to wait and see. If it's dry I'll be riding though.

Favorite Trails: Cuyamaca
I rode Cuyamaca last weekend to start my training. 20 miles, and 2600 feet of climbing took me about 3.5 hours. That is almost exactly half of the stats for the Archipelago ride (half the miles and half the climbing).

I'm probably not gonna be able to get the time to run two circuits of the grand loop in Cuyamaca before the Archipelago ride. I'll ride as much as possible before then, but I'm probably gonna be suffering the day of the ride no matter how much I train.

I'm not doing the official ride but I'd like to do some of these training rides with you guys as time permits.

We just did Spring to Sycamore (Martha's) last Sunday, including the switchback trail in between. About 22 miles with 2200 ft of climbing. We didn't do Cardiac so that would add a few miles and several hundred more feet. And we came back down to West Hills HS and rode pavement back to the poop factory; if we had gone back up to Spring and did a Toad's / Iron Tread loop on the way back that would probably land somewhere close to 30 miles.

Another idea: Start at Paseo Veracruz, up to Rockhouse, down the backside and to the steel bridge, back along the North side of Sweetwater river & lake, around the dam, up to the regional park and back to Paseo Veracruz. I'm guessing that's 22-24 miles. Optionally add another trip up to RH and back going South of the golf course (either at the beginning or end of the ride).

I've done a similar route two years in a row solo with no base fitness or preparation. How? New bike psych and lots of snacks for an all day adventure.

A very fun training ride this morning, we did the section from Black Mtn to LPQ and back, for some reason I was thinking this part would be much easier but there is a couple of steep climbs:

I did ok today but I also realized how much work I need to do for the day of the ride, thanks Doug(Pacman) for the invite and James(Questionis), Mark(Sladnas) and Jeremy(Spec-ED) for letting me tag along

Emailed Doug yesterday about wanting to do an underground archipeligo sometime after april 23@ was all set to sign up for the actual ride on the 23rd, then checked the calendar...yep, a wedding...for my inlaws' friends' daughter @ 3pm on the 23rd...in Temecula. Yep, it seems like everytime there is a great ride to sign up for, something is already scheduled.

I am hoping to clear the schedule for the 2nd to do a partial pre-archipeligo ride with Doug et al.
