About a year and a half ago, MiLo (mloteyro) and I started putting bikes together in our garages (MiLo was doing this a bit longer than I). After upgrading a few bikes and kind of learning the mechanics of it all, I decided I wanted to put a bike together from scratch. So I bought the frame (craigslist) and the rest of the components (EBay baby). Then I realized you needed special tools for some things. That can get pretty expensive (as you all would know). So I decided to see how I could make some of my own tools cheaper. I started with the Cup Press. I think the cheapest I found this for was around $50 on EBay. So I went to Home Depot, and there it was... Here is my version of the cup press. It ain't pretty, but it sure as hell works and it's cheap (I think a total of $15).
Simple set up. 2 oversized washers, 2 nuts (size depends on rod - no smartalik comments now - okay go ahead) and a threaded rod.

Put them together as such

Just take a lock wrench and press them together making sure you press them evenly.

Perhaps a simple idea, but definately made a world of difference for my bikes. Thanks for listening.
