ok, so maui and i show up and meet up with qs and his buddy kevin. then we meet roosk (who tells us he just becam e down w the dt 9:30 the night b4. great entrance! lets introduce him too. so we all eat our protein pills and put our helmets on. its obvious from the get-go that kevin was the animal and so he pedals on up and goes out of sight quick. apparently kevin has done san juan on his ss. h to the mutha f-in core. eventually maui does the same, flat pedal to the metal. and the three of us continue our slower pace. eventually we all get to cocktail rock and chop it up with some shuttlers on their way down. maui may sell the one guy who was a newbie on a borrowed bike, a bike so that could be cool. and maybe theyll become dt posse soon too, who knows. so then we head up to blue jay from there. I assured qs he will thank me as the ride down will be that much longer ey. from cocktail to bluejay, maui and kevin were stong as oxes, fresh out the boxes while the three amigoes suffered our way up with a no surrender spirit which should not go unrecognized. dt medal of honor..at the top we take big break and watch campers shoot pellet guns and watch qs and kevin do some droppin and hoppin trials kind of shit where qs tells us he used to be natl champ at rifling and his sister set a world record in too! roosk is glad we pushed him as he never would have came that far solo. on the way down, we take the xtra loop which was a mistake. that thing sucked butt to me. way to technical for that late a point in the ride. maybe doable if your fresh, but I was as fresh as litter bx in crazy cat ladies house. so I was hurtin 4 certain :crying: . The decent was epic as always with qs getting a flat which he changes in record time. qs kept up with kevin on the decent, maui, get this, loered his head to go under a low hanging branch and chipped his front tooth on his handlebar. The chip is more like a rounded chip in the shape of the handlebar. not too bad though I hope. Maui, how ya feelin? no blood and it could have been worse! and I said, maybe now your tooth is more secure stuck in there a bit further. he toughed it out and made it down just fine. roosk decented a little easier as he was at his limit as did I in the same way. it wa spretty hot and the whole thing with breaks took 6 hours!!! ok, its 11 and im hitting the sack. talk amongst yourselves. peace 4 now. i got to get some z's.

Danimal said it all. Great ride; but damn what a climb! I heard somewhere that our climb to Cocktail Rock took an hour and fourty five minutes... which I think sounds a little short, buy hey whatever, I'll take it. Hell, I was happy to see Kevin again, as after my first break, I didn't see him again except once when I caught a glimse of him way across some canyon. I think he made it up to CTR in just over an hour... yes, he's fast. And I don't think he's been to SJT in like 4 years!!! Anyway, some very fun downhill on the up hill after Cocktail rock but before the campground. Roots, ledges, trees, and I know we've all done sections like that, but the little section just after leaving CTR was interesting... huge ruts (like 3 foot deep), roots sticking up a good couple inches off the ground, rocks, overgrown tree braches hanging over the trail... all I gotta say is thank God for suspension :D After making in to the campground, we headed back towards the truck via blue jay, which like Danimal said, was a little much at the time. It's very technical and would be fun if we were fresh, but I think the only one who was fresh was Kevin. I know I was starting to ping at that point... and from CTR down was amazing. Kevin took the lead and he and I ripped the hell out of that place. How fast you ask? Fast enough where the little 6 inch rotor on Kevin's bike (he was actually riding his wife's Blur (he said it was because it was "light' - yeah, like it would have mattered, he still worked us all up and down and left and right) complained to the tune of locking up about 60% of the way down. Kevin and I had to stop twice to let that thing cool off enough so the front wheel would even spin! Yeah, late braking every corner for 6 or so miles will piss off your front brake just a little bit I guess... Once back at the truck (after my pinch-flat just above the switchbacks) we headed down to town to grab some much much much needed Mexican food, which hit the spot. What a ride...
