TR: Leaping Sloth and the Stone Possum

So Sloth tosses me a text this morning calling my bluff about riding today. He's offered the HT many times and now there is nothing I can do to turn it down. With that the time and location is set and I cruise down. Ten minutes before I get to the trail head I get the call from TREK and the possum is ready. Turn around now and ride a bike I know, or be gracious and ride a bike that's been brought for me?..duh why the hell not try out a hardtail. I haven't been on one in almost a year. The thing climbs like a goat but then again is a completely different fell. We rode up to park rocked the strairs to start off on the east side. Stairs were easy with a seat that drops all the way down, but with the stiffness I had no balance. I was expecting all the flex of my squishy and over correcting all over the place. Falling off a bridge here, the side of the trail there, all with Sloth charging away with no problems.

Up and down we go on single tracks and fire roads to come to a clearing and Sloth spies a new jump. Fearless as he is, let's get this on video. He panda's up and I get the cam ready....

Like a sack of potatos! Damn Curse of the Panda!!!!!!

With my pride destroyed and my back killing me I now roll over to see we gained an audience to see my demise. I pull whats left of myself together ande we get going. What I thought was a Sloth joke turned out to be a serious question "he you want to rock that DH section from the top on the HT"..."Sure" was reply...He was &&**%^ing serious! Leaving my lungs behind on the way up we take a quick break before moving over to the DH trail on the east side of the mountain. Yeah about that Sloth...not so much. We jam down the easier trail with my tail between my legs.

A couple miles later and we've come to the 8.3 mark with an elevation gain of 1240 feet. That beer is going to taste so good later..... :drunk:

Sloth manned the cam today. I tried to snap a couple but my bat was depleted.

Man, that was another fun ride. FatWhat? rocked the Trek HT today with grace, style and was quite tre' debonaire.....huh?
I hit this pipe drop a couple times and asked FatWhat if he would like to try the Heckler on it...he was a good sport, i tried to give him a little coaching, but you guys know me, I grunt, growl, point and snap fingers until I get the results I like. Well...he must have gone blank after the first few puffy chest grunts of my schooling and figured what a blow hard this guy is, I'm not gonna take that, I'll hit this drop the way I want................oooOOOoooops.
He handled it very well in front of an audience, props to you bro, you hammered out another 6 1/2 miles of seroius trial after this calamity, j/k, it was a crash, I wanted to make sure he was ok, and in doing so I turned off the camera and forgot about the post funny factor later. My bad, next time I will keep the camera rolling.
For those of you that haven't ridden with FatWhat?, your missing out, he is a great rider, ready to attempt most obstacles, quick witted, a great sport and a damn funny guy. I hope you feel ok tomorrow bro.
When we got back to my place beeer was in order so we enjoyed some of Oceansides finest craft brew. I still had some left in the growlers, and we drank heffe, and esb...oh yummos. To make it complete, I cooked up some brown rice and a vegetarian curry with a chili kick...mmmmm, more yummos.
Thanks for riding today FatWhat?, you did the HT proud, and faired very well on it.
Heres to tomorrow when we do it again?!

I watched/listened to the video again (morbid curiousity) and in fact that sounds like Sloth that said "Oh Sh*t". Fat What said something a bit different right before impact, but same idea!
