Thanks for a wonderful report. Did you bring your fly rod for fish creek? I think it might be nice if you stashed a full camp at the entrance to the pinyon mountain would make it fun for a beginner so you don’t have to walk up the road. There are a lot of options to make it easy for those who don’t want to try. You have inspired me to get out there and ride.

^^^ Well, there are no fish in Fish Creek for about a hundred years. And no creek either, except when it rains. It’s a sand wash. And yes, you are absolutely right. When I do it as a day ride I get dropped off after that long uphill. Way more fun. And yes, it would be a good idea to do just that section from Pinyon Mtn out thru Fish Creek and Split Mtn as an overnite bikepack with time to explore. Or more nights, by driving up from the Ocotillo Wells end and stashing water & supplies in advance. Bikepack party!
