Favorite Trails: teh gnar
Bailed from work nice and early Friday, but packing delays, traffic, baby vomiting delayed arrival to Big Bear trailhead. But I know I have a good wife because she said she could clean up the baby and I could go mountain biking and they would pick me up at sunset! Went up Cougar Crest, which starts up right away, but first mile is ridable:

Second half is a little chunky:

Nice views:

From the top, made my way east and found some cool single track going to Holcomb Valley called the Gold Rush trail, short, but new to me. Got a little lost, so good thing I had a light:

Only 1/2 hour late:

Saturday was family hike day to Greys Peak (also open to bikes). Up early (5am) thanks to the baby, so didn't see anyone on the way up. Very nice trail.

Baby loved running along:

But steep side of trail started soon and it was time for daddy donkey to get to work:

Nice views from the top:

After hike went to Oktoberfest and baby was in the kids costume parade as a bear:

Didn't get blitzed at Oktoberfest(unlike years past) and enjoyed the yummy German dinner and desert and back to hotel before it got to crazy busy.

Sunday did a loop near town. Up Pine Knot is a good way to get up to Skyline. Seemed like 40 mph winds at the view point, storm on its way:

Love how the Sky Line trail splits between large rocks:

Very windy and cold along skyline, so dropped down Plantation (fun) to Secret trail:

Then some FS road to Cabin (also fun), but stopping for one last lake view:

Signs like this always confuse me:

Went back up lower pine knot to go down pine know connector(not fun). Ended up with about 15 miles and 2k ft. Storm rolled in as we packed the truck and it wasn't a very fun drive down the mountain, although kept moving so can't complain:
