Ventured south yesterday, still reeling from the excesses of the Saturday night Halloween neighborhood party, to ride some new to me stuff around Black Mountain and the surrounding areas.

The ride ended up being a 4 hour, 23 mile loop from Sundevil Way by the high school. It was supposed to be a shuttle but in my hungover stupor I forgot my truck keys in the first truck, thus the unintended loop. It turned out fine in the end since we got a serious workout from the climb back, and also got to check out this rather weird Halloween display.

The ride was: Sundevil Way>Nighthawk>Miners>Lilac>Ahwee>(nice climb/descent from the park on Carmel Valley Road heading west into valley)>various neighborhood singletracks>McGonigle>steep ass fireroad up>descent of gnarly trail>trails by the pond>ascent of switchback trail >Bowtie>rim trails>Shitz>up Cobbles>down Cobbles>PQ valley to adobe house> point at which I realized I had no keys for truck>Black Mountain Rd>Hwy 56>Salmon River>Paseo Montalbon>Paseo Cardeil (where the Halloween display was)>truck.

The highlights were Lilac, Ahwee, and the climb/fun descent from the park on Carmel Valley Road heading west into valley. Nice work on the new trails Rodster and Bankerboy, etc.

It was refreshing to get a piece of non-local dirt, but I did miss the free-wheeling spirit of Skyhaven. The new developments out in PQ seem to be putting a lot of pressure on riders there.
