Some buddies and I want to make the drive from OC on Sunday to ride Noble Canyon. How is it with all the snow and rain down there? We just don't want to drive 2 hours and nit be able to ride. I checked the weather for the weekend and it seems to be warming up the next couple days. Thanks!

I haven't ridden or seen it in person but....

They received between 7-9 inches on the 30-31st storm. The weather has never been above 48 degrees so it is fair to assume the trail is covered with snow. There will be some clear spots but it will be muddy the in sunny areas.

Anybody with first hand experience?

Also, if there's any decent amount of snow still on the ground by then, traffic will be a pain getting there. May not be bad getting to the lower trailhead in Pine Valley, but getting up to the top might be an issue. I'm assuming the back way (Pine Creek Rd.) will probably be closed due to the snow, so Sunrise Hwy would be the only way to get up there.

I have a 4x4 so it shouldn't be a problem getting to the top unless the roads are closed. But if it's that difficult to get there I would assume the trail will be not very fun to ride.

It is not the road conditions that he is talking about. It is the fact that it is a weekend after the snow. We here in SD believe that snow is sacred and the pilgrimage must happen. This often leads to gridlock in the mountains. The road up takes you by the only major "snow play" area on Mt Laguna. Your journey may take hours if it is busy.

This is Julian but it is an example of what you might face.

Drum N MTB, I think your post above may have just set a new DT record for longest time between posts! Welcome back. I wanted to head up there this weekend too, but I think I'm going to stick to lower elevations. After a full day of sun today, a lot of that snow will be melting into a muddy mess on the trails. Keep checking though...might be okay by Sunday.

Ah...got it. We experienced the same thing on our way up holy jim yesterday. Tons of people in the canyon to play in the snow. Unfortunately the road was icy and some other riders told us that the trails had deep snow and downed trees. So we had to turn around.

I'm here because I don't want to make the drive to have it happen again.

Next weekend, with clear weather, will be much better both in trail and road conditions.

What about Lake Morena? Being on the east side of the summit, Morena might not gotten as wet. And I'll bet there was little to no snow at that elevation. I agree with the crowd, about Nobel, the Laguna Mountains is not place to try and ride this weekend.

Or you could take on the big bad, Lake Hodges, but bring the "A" game.
