Sdmoondog and I met up today for a lunchtime lap at La Costa Trails today. Weather was phenominal, 70 degrees, clear skies, good company. sdmoondog rode his singlespeed and killed me climbing up Switchbach Trail. I don't know what, but last week I was able to climb up switchback trail and only slightly dab once and it wasn't until my second lap and climbing near the upper section of VDM that my legs got soft. But today...maybe it was from trying to keep up with sdmoondogs blistering climbing speed that did me in...and I was no where near keeping up with him.
Anywho, I placed my camera on its newly jimmy rigged mount Ala-Foo...thanks Foo.
I forgot that my cables were close so you hear a lot of cable slap and chatter...and I mean a lot..so next time I will make sure they don't hit the camera. I took care of wind noise by super glueing a piec of foam at the microphone, that worked a lot better than I expected...
Thanks for riding with me and sorry for holding you up sdmoondog.
Heres a couple vids...kinda bouncy and jittery...gonna do a helmet mount soon.

RHS, nice video, thanks for posting it. I really like to come up and ride it sometimes soon.

I noticed a purple carpet on the ground. Would you happen to know what is that for? Do they fly radio controlled helicopter in that area?

Thanks

Ali

   That is laugh out loud funny. Seriously funny.

Not sure if it was our break halfway up to take in the view, or me pushing through most of the switchbacks....but the pace was definitely not blistering.

Video turned out nice, complete with voice overs of proper trail etiquette. Thanks for the lunch time ride. We need to do more of those as long as you have Wednesdays off.

I'm usually not very motion sensitive, but the jumpy video kinda made me want a bucket. But it was worth it to see the trails there in La Costa. I need to make a visit there some day as I've not ridden there before. It looks like a fun place indeed!

O.K. not blistering climbing speed just a hair below break-neck speed...I kid I kid...great ride today
I agree on the wednesday lunch ride.
The trail was in excellent shape thanks to Rich. All of us who ride there owe him a great amount of thanks for his tremendous efforts.

6pack, I don't know if there are RC Heli's pilots out there, its quite possible as it seems like a decent enough spot to fly them there.

Ohnooo, yeah, the vids are gonna be from a helmet mount next time, that should get rid of the cable chatter and the crazy handlebar motion.

Next week ima try and have the hemet mount for smoother footage.

What type of camera is it?

I got a Go Pro Helmet Hero for Christmas last year and have only used it a couple times. I keep putting off using it, always saying "Next ride, next time." I need to bust it out.

No RC heli's -- that's not a purple carpet -- it's the shadow of the kiosk (trail signboard) -- there's easier places for them to cart there RC's to! Great videos! Real fun to watch. Man, lots of noise. So most of that was cables slapping the camera? But you don't have squeaky brakes, that's good. There were some other occasional weird noises too, maybe fork squish or brake rotor noise? I like the sound of the tires crossing the planks on the switchbacks to the sidewalk. (C'mon, the little kid part in us likes the cool noises, right?). Thanks for posting those.

Good videos. Not to bad for a bar mounted camera. I've been filming at night up there with a go-pro camera. Once I get something decent, i'll post it on here.

PacMan, its a real basic cheap digi that I usually have in my pocket for the rides. Just a Kodak C813. I like it just because I only paid $89 for it. I had another exaclty like it but it dropped on the asphalt when I was taking a pic several months ago. I purposely bout a cheapy just because of that, knowing there is a strong possibility I would break it, which I did the first one...and am prolly gonna do to this one sooner or later, prolly sooner than later. With a 2gig card in it I can get 48 minutes of footage on it or over 5,000 pics.

Brake rotor noise...wierd, as I don't really hear it that evident when Im riding. I think it is a biproduct of vibration to the camera.
Where the camera was mounted right next to the stem is where the brake hoses and shifter cables intersect. It didnt even cross my mind when I set it up or I would have securesd the cables and hoses away from the camera...ridiculous amount of chatter. I like the sound when going over the planks as well. I liked hearing my rear hub as well, even though it was difficult to discern from the chatter.

Pete, the vids turned out really good.

On my mount, my bolt is too long, so I'm going to mark how much threads I can cut off with the dremel, as I believe that will help with the flex/shakiness of the mount.

Cool! Who's the girl near the top? I've seen her several times out there.

Nice videos Pete. It's nice to see you riding again on the hill, and the new work on it.
