Over the last 6 months most of my Tunnels/LPQ action has been weekdays mornings. Peel down south, hit the Camino Del Sur trailhead between 6:30 and 7:00, ride for an hour or so, then head north and be the desk by 9:00. Well I hadn't been to the Tunnels in about a month, so I woke up this morning feeling the jones. I dropped in from Camino Del Sur, entered through Tunnel 1 and looped around the single track in the canyon floor. Then I head up Tunnel 4 (Shoes?) to the mesa. I expored around up top, looping together some more single track. I finished heading down Tunnel 4 and out Tunnel 1 back to the truck. A great quick ride and I didn't see one other trail user the entire time. A peaceful morning on the bike that was good for the mountain biking soul.

soooo.... i just got back from a night ride out there. i hit rocking horse and 5.

first off, this was the first time i have been there since the week before the temecula 12hr (month ago maybe??) and let me just say this... there must have been an ARMY of people clipping away the trees there. I cannot believe how much that place has lost its "specialness" in the last year and half.

with that being said, I propose the renaming of tunnels to something more appropriate for its current state of being. A couple of suggestions:

1. Tree-clippings.
2. Sky-view
3. Well-on-its-way-to-being-just-another-PQ-fireroad (yawn)
4. horsey's welcome
5. has-been
6. once-was
7. sorry no bikes, this is a preserve
8. only thing missing to be like the rest of PQ is horse shit.

...ok, i'll stop.

Awesome pictures by the way!

Great shots! The morning lighting gives the Tunnels the "Enchanted Forest" look.

Just saw photos of the tree trimming at the base of 5 on MTBr. Quite simply unbelievable what these entitled equestrians are doing to the natural habitat so they can claim their stake to the Tunnels area. I hope someone catches these guys in action.

That is a travesty bordering on ridiculous. I would hope "sane" equestrians see that and get upset. Whoever is doing that is giving them all a bad name.

I saw an older dude cutting up the trees at the base of T5. WTF!!!

It was one of those 2 guys on the MTBR thread above. Awww man, that makes my blood boil seeing the dude carelessly cutting away. He was out there around 4 on Friday. It's completely irresponsible and reckless what that dude was doing... didn't occur to me he was clearing the way for equestrians. It hit me when I came through there the next day and it was a complete mess.

I don't know what to do about these bafoons. They say we're wrecking the place and here's a guy out there clear cutting the canyon.

OK, so what are we gonna do? (and please don't tell me to attend the next CAC meeting, make my voice heard, blah blah blah, 'cuz talking aint getting it done). I don't know of an enforceable law that we can make a citizens arrest under. The idiots we're relying on to enforce this are the same ones that were supposed to kick us out a long time ago.

Anyone up for fighting fire with fire?

I just started a thread in advocacy called LPQ Tunnels Deforestation. There are pictures of two equestrians. Is either one of them the guy you saw? I have their address. Let's bust these dudes!

^I haven't been two LPQ in two weeks, so I couldn't get a sense of what you were talking about. The photos MIA posted made it clear.

+1

I haven't been there in over a month, & until I saw the photos, all I could say is wow.

Seriously where is SDMBA on this matter?
