Rode Elfin Forest with Mike (Kimba) today. Hit the Way Up and the Equine Inclide counterclockwise. Then fast DH to the cars. Fun!

This is one place I've never ridden. Anyone want to schedule a time to do it?

I haven't ridden there either. Mostly just walked my bike around the place.

^^^ perfect Ldood!

I've found that my enjoyment of Elfin forest increased when I started walking my bike from the very beginning. If you walk from the water crossing up to the native plant scenic loop, then you've just walked the rather steep section at the bottom of the Way Up. That's the section that puts my lungs on fire when I try to ride it from a dead cold start straight from the car. Beyond that point it's ridable, and you can warm up before you get to the difficult sections at the top (where I again dismount and walk because I'm old and lame).

I used to ride here almost weekly 10 years ago. I was able to clean the Way Up Trail but not anymore. Those waterbars make it tough and teh trails isn't in nearly as good of condition as it used to be. Once I made it to the top, those trails in the back were pretty awesome (for a good workout).

I'm open for it this week. Earlier in the day is better though. Post it up or PM. And why is Fred commenting? He's been MIA for what seems like months now! Fred; did I give you too much grief about your rubber shoes one day, or are the meetup people just more entertaining? HaHa. Let's ride!

I will ride there next week, a morning, probably Tues or Wed. I'll post it up once the day is known.

Rode there yesterday evening, the dirt was great after the rains. I don't ride Elfin regularly because there are closer trails I prefer, but I should ride there more just to get in some of the technical climbs. Nice views from the top. It's kind of a weird place, lots of potential for great trails but very little flow and a serious lack of singletrack. It's a collection of fun but really short little loops and lots of wide fireroad. It's really too bad there isn't one nice continuous singletrack around the place with decent mileage. Also a bummer that the only way to connect to Hodges is that steep service road, it would be sweet if there was a singletrack connector with a bunch of switchbacks. The road out there from the 15 is a blast, hopefully they don't add a bunch of stoplights when they finish all of those houses.

Today was short and sweet; got to hang with the 25,000th visitor to the Elfin center, real funny dude:). I don't think we got any ride pics, too busy chasing Jose around.

man, that climb kicked my butt. Here's one of the 'champeen riders':

Image

So my Dad is in town visiting this week and he came along out to Elfin with me and hung around below while we rode. He happened to go check out the visitors center and lo' and behold, he was the 25,000th visitor. The center presented him with a box full of cool schwag. I think maybe Fred missed his calling. I'm going to nominate him to host next year's Academy Awards.

Image

One of the cool things is this welded metal trail marker. He doesn't want to take it home on the plane with him, so it's staying at my place. Love it.

Image

Topped off the ride with Fred's suggestion to eat at a killer sandwich shop in the 'dido. Om nom nom. Thanks guys.
