Any other DTer's go to either of the local showings of Life Cycles this past week? What'd you think? I saw it at La Paloma yesterday. Absolutely stunning visuals, a bit preachy, too much slow-mo; but I walked out of the theater really wanting to go ride.
Rode La Costa this evening-yeh, LEDs. Still got a huge smile on my face!

Yes, Derek Frankowski's cinematography is amazing. I liked the bike coming from molten steel beginnings etc, but don't think the case for the farmer grandpa / bike rider analogy was really made. But then it's not like a bike movie needs a good plot. Like porn, it's not the point. But, speaking of the action, yeah, too much slo-mo bikes spinning thru the air. I would've liked more carving singletrack. All those riders are amazing. I liked the singletrack near the beginning going thru the green leaves. Didja notice one shot leaned over so far in a berm that the inside handlebar sprays some dirt!!? I think the cinematography is as good as I've ever seen, so regardless of any weakness, it was a really fun nite at the movies.

I completely agree, a bit too much slow-mo. There were a couple of times when they really did a good job conveying just how fast the dudes were hauling ass, but few and far between. But yeah... that handlebar drag through the dirt was unreal!!!

I wasn't quite as stoked to go out and ride afterwards as I am after watching The Collective/Anthill movies... but it was still a great flick.

I have a friend that was there and described it perfectly:

If he wants to show someone how much he loves bikes and why, he'll show them that movie. But it's not a movie that's going to get you stoked to go shred some trails.

Cinematography was phenomenal and I can't wait to get it in Blu Ray. I agree that there was WAY too much slo-mo. I have to confess, I was dozing off a bit (but I was running on little sleep and a long day).

I didn't quite understand the connection between the grandfather, farming, and biking... but then again, I was more focused on the actual picture than the words.

It might be worth getting just for the cinematography. Like other stated I thought there were too many slow-mo shots and "look what I can do with my camera and editing" shots.

I wouldn't cancel your order, I saw the Movie and I'm still ordering a copy, I would agree it's not your typical MTB Movie of hucking off a 70 foot cliff with a Slayer song playing in the background, I see this movie as visual experience the same as when you go to a IMAX Movie or watch a Geo show on TV, and don't look to deep into the meaning just enjoy the journey.

Ps: and a hit of acid wouldn't hurt.
