Dirttreaders,

Mountain lions have been sighted on the Cal State San Marcos campus an in Elfin Forrest. Use appropriate caution. I read that after coming back from my solo night ride at La Costa

Didn't think theyd come out that close. I've seen coyotes on the trail (and hear them regularly at night) but mountain lions are different ballgame. I guess I'll be packin' on the trail soon...

Cheers,

DM

I carry a big assed Buck knife on my rides. My instructions to the land managers are to place the knife in my cold dead fingers so it at least looks like I put up a fight.

I know a ranger who's scared of kitty cats yet rides their bike on the street. With cars!! Now that's reckless and life threatening.

Last 2 years I've also been riding with a large knife strapped to my camelback left strap. But I've ditched it the last few months, actually since beginning to ride with the DTs who are such a peaceful group.

I may pull it out again, esp for solo rides.

One time the knife actually came in handy for mechanical reasons. my rear wheel bent at Lake Morena and it wasn't moving. With my shiv, I shaved off the side lugs on one side of the rear tire enough to permit rolling. We were happy cuz the truck was miles away.

 What the fudge? I thought Mike "Mr. Smiles" was a man of peace? Why do you need a knife? The La Costa Crips going to jump you?
