So we have been trying to hit up a new area to ride every month, calling it the San Diego County Trail Tour.

So our next destination is Cowles Mtn or Iron Mtn, as these are the two new places we want to hit soon.

Anyone done either of the two & how did you like it?

I've seen the pictures of the chunk at Iron Mtn & it intrigues me.Love the techy stuff.

Looks like alot of fun, from what I hear it's best to do it on the weekday or super early on the weekend to avoid a bunch of hikers.

I'll post up when we are going there.

Damn weekday morning rides! Can't do them, but I want to hit up Iron Mtn as well.
Hmmm, might want to think about a slacker ride day!

For sure Amor. We need to go riding together soon too.

Looks good for Thurs around 4:15 +or- 15 minutes at Cowles Mtn if anyone is up for what MTBill calls "Mini Noble".

Ok we hit up Cowles MTn so within the next couple of weeks, Iron Mtn is probably where will go.

Place looks so fun with all that chunk. Most pics I've seen there is people on there DH bikes armored up & FF helmets, so should be interesting when we go there for the first time.

I forgot the 24HR Hurkey Creek race is this weekend, so no Iron Mtn this week.

Hopefully next week, I will be able to post it up on the calendar. It will either be Tues or Thurs around 4:30pm

Going to be hitting up 1000 trails in Descanso this weekend, my friend says there's good riding out of the campground, so I'll bring a camera & take some shots if we hit any good stuff.

Please do. I suspect there are several nice routes from there to Oakzanita Peak, a sentimental favorite o mine.

Ok I think next week is either Iron. Mtn or TW, as I try to get a little practice in for Vail. Never been to either & would like to go soon.

I've only hiked Iron Mountain, but am guessing TW would be much better training for Vail. I've also heard comparsions of Vail to Daley.

BTW, when does the tour come to north county?

I hiked Iron Mtn about 6 weeks ago on a Sat and saw 1 bike track from the day prior. I looked at most of the lines and you could do it with a 4-6" bike, but you'll definitely want armor. Expect the hike up to be 1.5 hrs. Like others, I'd highly suggest hitting it on a weekday, either as early as you could or even mid-day. Some point this winter I've got a Poway Tour de Chunk loop in mind that combines Iron Mtn, Mt Woodsen, and TW.

TW has some good routes (aside from DH) for those looking to get some cardio (read Climbs) for Vail Lake races. You can easily add this to the trail system on the south side of Poway for some real mileage (and climbing gain) over to Sycamore Rd, and from there on if you wish.
