Thanks to J to the J to the Mutha' f*ckin Whale for pointing this out on the kiosk at LPQ today. Talk about an epic ride....

"The San Diego Sea to Sea Trail is 140 miles of natural beauty, running from the Salton Sea near the Anza-Borrego Desert, to the Pacific Ocean near Del Mar, California. No where else in the world can you experience such a diverse range of geographical and environmental features in just 140 miles!"

your may need a trailer to put a tent a sleeping bags in. that thing goes faaaar. oh and bring a gun when you pass the mountains... the salton sea is full of gangs...and ghosts (not that the guns will work on ghosts) according to weird california (in my dentists waiting room). i guess theyve done a lot of nucyoular testing out there. The hills have eyes! Ive done it all the way to iron mtn and have been planning to do that next stretch soon. eventually its going to be hard to keep doing links and so im thinking camp and ride is gonna be the way to get to the very end.

Its actually kind of boring firetrail but in a way thats nice for a change. The scenery kicks butt and I do want to do it so it doesn't go away. I can hear officials now, "well noone rode it...and we needed to put the next Linens and Things somewhere."

Separat note: Heres som other "mega-trails" . the pacific crest trail (south to north) looks like it goes through san diego to seattle!!!.

i figured most trekking quality trails aren't really world cup material, but it just seems like a really cool idea for adventurers. gangs at the salton sea? sounds kinda wacky lol where'd you hear that one?

Many sections of the PCT are not open to bicycles (or horses). It's hiking only in many spots. It goes all the way to Canada. Every year a bunch of people hike the whole thing in one go.

I have ridden the LPQ trail up to the point where you get to the crazy supermax prison/water treatment facility. How do you get around it?

There is also another "epic" trail in south san diego. I think the 'trail' that starts at the mouth of the sweetwater river can be linked to other trails all the way to the PCT in tecate. I guess that would be the PCT extra credit.

I now you all have seen the brown and yellow post on rides that mark the California Riding and Hiking Trail. Is that a continous trail or in random sections?

My buddy Maui (mauical) knows the way. Like I said, we've gone to iron mtn but haven't done it. So if yall do the pq canyon to iron mtn stretches, then well all be on the same page and continue on from there. If we get this completed...omg.
