I’m in agreement with k2rider’s “Back to where it all began...” post. I’m diggin’ the uncrowded, rutted, and overgrown trails that harken back to the early days. Yes, I miss the fast and flowing sections of several favorite trails that are now deeply rutted, but it’s almost like getting a whole new set of backcountry trails to explore.

Headed up to Idyllwild to ride on Sunday. Checked out May Valley area as the fire closure was not extended and had heard locals were starting to open up the trails. Some of the upper ones are open but raw and hard to follow in spots. Many others have been wiped out and overgrown completely. Trails need more traffic or they'll get overgrown.

Southridge now has a view of Garner valley

Image

Rode out Johnson Meadow. Where the trail gets close to the highway near Kean camp summit it disappears. I don't think much of Keen camp climb exists anymore.

Image

There were some tire tracks heading to Missing link / Tunnel of Love but I didn't go past Hurkey creek crossing there. Couldn't even spot the start of Exfoliator from the road. I'd be very careful of unexpected ruts if you try and ride either of those.

I was wondering about that the other day. The Hurkey Creek loop is one of me favorite SoCal rides. I guess I need to get up there and poke around a bit. :drunk:

Nice. We're headed out there tomorrow. Taking a couple Utah virgins so we'll start at Wire Mesa before moving on to Gooseberry Mesa, Grafton Mesa, Zen and JEM. We may ride Rythym & Blues or Church Rocks as an evening spin if the mid-day sun doesn't destroy us.

Doesn't seem to be a loop anymore but hopefully a point to point is still possible from Southridge down to Hurkey. That is probably the best way to do it right now.

Rode LPQ/Tunnels last night

For anyone wondering, this is what you see when you hit the east end of Crossings now near Intuit. The gas station is just visible below the traffic light.
