Checked out Marian Bear today to see how bad the brush is. Answer - the rangers have done a pretty good job keeping the main trails clear but some of the side trails are almost unrideable. PO is encroaching on some as well. The sidehill trail at the very west end has somewhat been cleared and it is now possible to get through along the trolley tracks climbing up a concrete barrier. I wouldn't try it during working hours though as it goes right through part of the construction site. As always happened the storms and high water changed some of the trails quite a bit.

This was one of the side trails east of Genesee

Still some flowers out there.

Evdog your pictures look so amazing. how hard is that ride? id love to try to go ride with you i just dont think i have the skill level. all the desert run ride pics make me excited

Yeah as Dirtrider said Palm Canyon is a pretty big ride that is known for putting the hurt on both bike and body. Ride lots and get comfortable doing 20ish mile rides and you'll be able to pull it off next winter. Riding Cowles regularly will help a lot. Palm canyon season is over for this year anyways.

cool thats my plan to ride as much as possible both dirt and non dirt. living in santee i have lots of hills for both dirt and non dirt so im just trying to rack miles and grind out the hills as best i can.

i definitely would like to get a hardtail again down the line and outfit it for longer distance riding

I used to ride there all the time, there and Rose, out under the 805 and onto the trails where the new Miramar National Cemetery that folks are dying to get into now stands. Or sits. Whatever. Those days are gone. There were 10 miles of single track up there, for those of ye who never knew the place. And tons of endangered horned lizards too. I miss that place, and those days. They were good.

Yup. Maybe 8 or so years ago I cleaned up the route from the nursery down under 52 to the east end of Marion Bear. Made for a great way to loop those trails into a ride.

Lost it on day 10 of Arizona trail. Yeah, it sucked... you don't realize how much you rely on one until you suddenly don't have it.
