So I did a little ride recently on the Arizona Trail. TR to come,

The morning after Mt Lemmon had its way with me.

I have climbed up the mountain and I don’t know why we didn’t do it in the opposite direction, something about finishing the trail not having fun. Props for doing the rocky road i guess I will save that for another life.

30-some miles of rocky dirt roads does not make for a happy camper

Cool temps meant one last run down Palm Canyon for the season yesterday. Aquaholic Steve joined me

Got all the way to Palm springs before Aqua realized he forgot his helmet. Walmart to the rescue!

Image

Forecast was 40% chance rain up top, which usually means 100% chance of rainbow

Image

Had light rain with sunshine for the first 90 mins then just the odd sprinkle after that

Image

Not many flowers left but the cholla were blooming

Playing on trailside rollers

Great day out and perfect temps. Very windy though, especially lower down

Went to Cowles(big rock/mesa) today for the first time in 8 years. I had a photographic memory of that trail from 8 years ago but it seems that 8 years of erosion has changed it a bit haha. lots of dirt is gone so its super rocky on big rock(you dont say?). i saw a few of the railroad tie waterbars had been dislodged and moved to the side of the trail and a lot of the bars bear scars from chain rings slicing them up. the height of the drops have all increased some to the point where i was to scared to go down so i shamefully walked the bike down a few spots. Its funny cause i used to do this down hill no problem week after week on light hardtail and now i cant handle it on a full suspension trail bike lol. ill return but probably go down mesa until i get some skill to hit big rock.

Yeah as Dirtrider said Palm Canyon is a pretty big ride that is known for putting the hurt on both bike and body. Ride lots and get comfortable doing 20ish mile rides and you'll be able to pull it off next winter. Riding Cowles regularly will help a lot. Palm canyon season is over for this year anyways.
