The posted hours say the place opens at 8am, but I showed up at 7:30am on a Saturday and somebody had already unlocked the date. By around 9am there were definitely others showing up. I left before things got crowded. |

How much have you guy's been using the BMX bikes? I've been thinking about getting one, and my wife will buy me one for our 5 year anniversary (I got her some jewelry). I'm sure this falls into the never pass up on getting a new bike, but will In use it or will it hang next to my vintage Mongoose and half taken apart Schwinn Stingray knockoff.. |

I haven't gotten a ton of use on my BMX bike... so far I've been using it for its intended purpose which was to practice track stands, etc. when I have a few minutes of spare time and to take to the pump track off hwy 56. I'd say I'm on it maybe 1x a week on average anywhere from 15-60 minutes. Although things like bar spins (and even manuals) are still a hilarious fantasy for me, I would say that taking it to the pump track has improved my turns... I've been feeling a little more comfortable and balanced recently. Overall, I'm glad I bought it, as the cost was not too much. I did see some 40-something dude at the pump track who was really killing it. He could jump the pumps, land on his back wheel and manual, etc. He's apparently been riding BMX since he was 10, so that really put into perspective my prospects of achieving similar feats. |

I saw the same guy there and chatted for a bit. I believe he also instructs kids in BMX. The BMX bike I got was for my wife to cruise around town. Although she prefers her mountain bike, it's a little overkill for that (which doesn't always stop her) but she's riding the bmx bike a couple of times a week. I like it too, but prefer my Hank Asylum klunker for around town riding since I'll put more miles in rather than just kicking around a small area attempting tricks. That said, just do it. A couple more thoughts that I'll throw out there. When I bought my 24" Haro Group 1 "Mike King edition" bike off of Craigslist I really didn't know what the hell I was doing. After some time on it, I've realized that it's really for racing and not really for tricks. The frame is aluminum and so isn't going to take the abuse a CroMo frame would, and the gearing is on the high side which makes practicing slow-speed tricks like track stands and skinnies a little tricky. If I was willing to put money into it, the first thing I'd do is reduce the gearing, but I don't know if I care enough to do that. The 24" tires have made it more difficult than expected to learn tricks like manuals and I think 20" wheels are probably better suited to learning tricks. However, the 24 bike is probably better for the pump track and what's really holding me back on learning manuals is my fear of falling. I'm still overall glad I bought it. |

LOL - The famous unboxing! Well? Did you ride it? Were expectations met? I keep thinking of getting one for myself (the one we have is mostly for the wife), but every time we go ride around town, I always reach for the klunker, which, other than the coaster brakes, I love. An aside: I came home from work the other night and my son was instructing my wife how to bunny hop down in the driveway. So funny; a 48 year girl, just now learning to bunny hop on a bmx bike. I love it! |

I love it! Rode around briefly in flip flops, did a tiny bunny hop, then put it away. Might get on it tonight, but have been fighting an issue with my neck/shoulder (old age, too much time in front of PC with poor ergonomics). If not tonight it will be coming with me to the track this Friday to be my pit bike. I love it already!! Compared to old BMX, it's Long/Low/Slack!! It feels more comfortable to be able to do stuff with. Oh and the single rear brake works 100 times better than the dual vintage brakes on plastic Z rims... |

I'm in the same boat, but looking to get a bmx bike for myself so I can ride with the kiddos on the bmx track and show them how to crash  Was thinking of getting a Dirt Jumper instead of bmx since I could really F myself up learning how to jump at 41. |

Got out and did some Bunny Hop and Jump practice today. I know it's super lame, but everyone has to start somewhere. Since I always ride clipped in on the MTB, riding flats is fairly new for me. Here's some video. Feel free to critique or laugh.. |
