what is the best way to access that area now that all those homes are built off Medina?

At the end of Fanita Parkway (which runs along the East side of Santee Lakes), where it turns right onto Ganley, there is a legitimate entry gate leading to the Stowe Trail. Follow the signage.

I just noticed Google Maps street view doesn't show the gate (too old). It's just to the left of the black iron driveway gate next to the embankment. You can't miss it.

There is no parking on Fanita Parkway. I haven't been in a while, but I usually park at the foot of Ganley, where I'm not in front of someone's house. If it's crowded I'd opt to park farther back on Lake Canyon Rd., again to avoid parking in front of someone's house.
