It is pretty amazing how the latest crop of trail bikes ride. 130mm of rear travel (and 150mm for the lead rider), and these guys are tackling big bike stuff at a good clip. (just skip the commentary). Impressive.

I watch these videos and I'm amazed at how hard they beat their bikes up. I mean they are slamming all the way down the trail without any regard to their bike or body.
I guess I'm just too old to understand it

Yes, the modern trail bike is amazing. The new Nomad, Tracer etc. are mini DH bikes with better pedaling.

I suppose they have all winter to fix their gear and rest up.

I rode some long shuttle trails in Idaho this summer and the point of failure was my grip.

I WANT to ride like that at times. Reality sets in fast though. I guess there is more to it than just a modern trail bike. :)

It is amazing the bikes capability these days. This year and last I mostly rode my enduro bike at Whistler not on a lot of double blacks but your typical aline, dirt merchan, no duff, etc trails. There actually a lot more fun on these new bikes. But like DirtRider mentioned you take a bit more beating and ride a little bit less. Plus your bike takes a beating. Id still prefer the DH bike on the super tech, but pucker steep trails that Whistler and surrounding areas have to offer along with the added cush for drops and casing landings. But I still haven't purchased one because my bike has handle everything I've thrown at it pretty damn well.

Watching the cairns dh vid from loris today on PB, I think Sam Hill as a hella good shot at winning on his enduro bike. Especially in the beginning on those tight turns.

*PS watch your speed when following people on DH bikes vs trail bikes and vice versa. Might end up going long or short on some features. I don't know from experience.
