I wanted to give a shout out to Ryan Kershek at Fluid Focus, LLC in San Marcos. I found out about Fluid Focus through a post that k2rider made back on May 15, 2017 on DT. Since then, I've been exchanging emails and calls with Ryan and had him do some work on my bike.

I've found Ryan's level of customer service to be significantly better than anywhere I've experienced elsewhere. He has patiently answered my questions regarding potential upgrades, tips on self repair, etc. This includes exchanging pictures via email and discussions which randomly veer into hypotheticals. (Those of you that have talked bike upgrades with me know that I ask a LOT of questions :) )

So if you have any need for bike repairs or upgrades, I'd suggest you have Ryan a chance. It's always good karma to give your business to the small businesses.

Ryan, who used to be the lead mechanic at Bike Bling a few years back before leaving to go work as a suspension specialist for the KTM Supercross & Motocross teams, is opening up shop today in San Marcos. For now, he'll be a one man show working 6 days a week and while he *wants to focus on suspension work*, he'll be doing all types of repairs as well including wheel builds. Even after leaving Bike Bling, Ryan was servicing my bikes from home so he hasn't been away from the game anyway.

...

Well, Ryan Dungey was able to pull off a couple World Championships on his KTM on suspension that Ryan had a hand in. Rather at Bike Bling or from home, Ryan has done all the suspension work on my bikes (and a few friends of mine) for the past few years. Admittedly, I'm not super anal/picky about my suspension settings just as long as it's not harsh and I'm not one of those people that can feel the difference when my rebound is 5 clicks out vs 3. That being said, I've never had any issues with his work.

I think people that want something other than standard factory settings or custom work need to make it a point to contact Ryan directly and ask him about that. I don't have any experience or expertise with that kind of stuff. I'm too much of a simpleton.

Shout out to Ryan at Fluid Focus. I'm a new and satisfied customer.

I'd just installed a decent number of new replacement parts (cassette, ring, chain, bottom bracket) and upgrade (new shock).

Clicks and creaks were the result of my 'handiwork'. Disassembled and reassembled the bike a decent number of times. Driveway tests appeared successful. 2 minutes on the trail and tick click creak. Fack!

Called Ryan, he said come on over, which I did. Although he had a bike on the stand, he said it was no problem to hang while he got to work on my bike (and even provided a cold beer!). He started with some of the usual suspects. We both felt that part of the issue was coming from the rear. He serviced my Hadley hub on the spot which cured more than 50%, but still a little creaking. Ended up leaving the bike overnight.

Picked it up today, and it is as quiet as a mouse. I hadn't thought to check the torque on the Cinch crank retaining nut. Sure as shit, that's what it was.

Just shows how a pro can get to the bottom of the issue. Of course he verified other areas were A-OK too.

And he confirmed my new shock sag was nuts on (it doesn't have markings and is a chore to measure), as well as some helpful advice for H/L compression and rebound settings.

The price was more than fair.

It's really nice to have a local, very knowledgeable, customer service oriented resource like this.

Thanks Fluid Focus!

Ryan is the Man!

I was starting to feel some play in my front fork and was on a short timeline due to a planned trip. I called to see if he would be able to squeeze me in, and he was able to rebuild the fork in one day, saving my trip. The rebuild was spot on and feels better than when it was new. Great Guy, Great Service, Great Shop. Do not hesitate to reach Ryan if you need anything.....

 Good to see everybody happy with the work being done at Fluid Focus. I have my latest acquisition there now as well, being built up. Good to see the American dream at work for Ryan. He took that giant leap and so far has made it work. That's how most of the 1%'ers got started and why I don't begrudge any of them.

I just had Ryan do a full service on
my Bronson. Pike fork, Fox shock and
Reverb seat post.
Awesome service and great turn around!
He took the time when I picked up my
bike to answer questions and helped me
set up the suspension.
He's also building me a wheel.
I highly recommend him for any kind of work.

Also had him do a Reverb rebuild a week ago. Haven't tested it yet, but on the stand it seems to work well. Turned it around in a day.

Post subject:  Re: Fluid Focus bike service - San Marcos

Just dropped off one of my bikes to have him diagnose a "grind" I'm having. As usual, it feels like it must be trey bottom bracket but in my experience, it usually ends up being the rear hub bearings. I'm hoping that's the case this time so I can just get new hubs altogether.

I also brought in a separate bike which wasn't shifting properly. I assumed I probably bent a hanger in Sedona but it at least looked straight. I knew it would be a quick fix for Ryan but he threw it on the stand as I stood there and fixed it in 30 seconds...loose derailleur (not hanger) bolt. DUH :domo:

Saw Harley on the way out. His Bronson is looking sweet with those new Ibis 742 hoops!!
