Nailed it. Confirmed by many conversations with folks on the trails.

Agreed, and that is why access is not stopping. A few signs go up, they are promptly taken down and the general public has no idea.

Took the pup for a walk up behind the HS, hadn't been down that real side-slope serpentine on the other side of hill from PROM in a long time. Looked like DFW handiwork, "we had to destroy the environment to save the environment" type of work, blast the 4x4 up and down the hill to obliterate the trail(though can still see remnants). Nice job! Also noticed low brush trees possibly gnatcatcher habitat tore up of the side of the 2-track on the way up towards the tank.

That is hilarious.... of course they drove all over the dang hill destroying bushes n grass to "fix" the problem.... those guys are way harder on the environment than the existing trails.

So, gnatcherly I agreed with socal_jack’s comments, but it took seeing it in person to really be outraged. The sustainably S-shaped user trail remains, but the straight up-and-down slope fourwheeler tracks will insure the hill gets eroded next big rain. Not sure where it was cut from, but that discarded native vegetation along the gravel road was surprisingly large and mature. This shows how poorly DFW manages their parcel. Whoever did that should get some disciplinary action if they knew better, and some training if they didn’t.

It is this sort of mis-management of the property that pushes the real "owners" of the land to ignore the signs and continue riding and maintaining their own trails.
Fish n Game is their own worst enemy out there.

I have numerous ex co-workers that now work for Carlsbad PD. I was told that one of the current Rangers dislikes the job and is going back to his old position as a community service officer so I expect a new Ranger to be hired/assigned to the program. I'm surprised that they only wrote 10 citations in 10 months.

At least they are giving people a chance to change bad habits first.... but really the off-leash dog thing should be a written citation. no warnings for that crap.

UPDATE:
Rode out there yesterday and someone has destroyed the first couple of berms on the trail known as "rock garden DH" (no actual Rock Gardens on this trail....). Whomever did this cut out the inside slopes of the berms, but left the high edge boarders in place... Does this mean it was a trail user and not fish n game? I figure if fish n game were to do that they would just demolish the entire berm and then dump some brush at the head of the trail to try and stop users..... Perhaps it was a hiker or equestrian who wants a flatter trail? No Idea.

Also, the activity down by the water tower is growing, there are now a number of metal containers and bins along with a forklift that has been there for a while now.

Been wondering what those storage trailers are for and why they are there. I believe that road to the water tower is a city easement.

Yeah, that land all belongs to the city water department, but it is in the middle of the land managed by fish n game.
