I'd never heard of Rhabdo, but it's a thing that can happen to you, like a bad bonk going near fatal. A local writer, James Murren, has an article in the latest Dirt Rag called "Almost Dead" about his experience.

http://dirtragmag.com/dirt-rag-198-is-here/

https://jamesmurren.com/2017/04/24/rhabdomyolysis-and-mtb/

You can find plenty on the internet.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhabdomyolysis

Key point to remember: If your urine has gone beyond dark yellow to really dark, like brown, you're in serious shape. So next time one of your friends is bonked severely, ask him or her to pee in your hand so you can check it out.

What should you do if a snake bites it while peeing?

My piss looked like that after one of the Black Mtn trail work days last year. I was running wheelbarrows full of dirt up to a rock feature others were building. Yeah, I felt "over-exercised," but no more confused than usual.

Funny, when I was leaning on my shovel directing you, I felt fine! :-)

In all reality, I have only had full blown heat exhaustion once. Long before the 56 existed we would load up our float tube and fishing gear and ride out to Deer Lake for bass fishing. It was a 90+ degree day. After the ride out, a day of fishing, and the ride home, I was nauseous and took nearly a day to recover. Never figured it out until it was too late.

Stay hydrated. I have always heard if you are thirsty, you are already in a state of dehydration.

Spent 3 days in hospital with 'rhabdo' in summer of 2010. I only have one kidney (lost the other when I was 12) and my pee was like black syrup. Dizzy, confused but not enough to know that I needed to get my ass to a hospital pronto.

Not rhabdo. More like flabdo. If I had some core strength I probably wouldn't have trashed my back stumping.

r w, maybe your symptoms were from arsenic dust inhalation?

Whatever the source, Rhabdo is a terrifically Manly name for a mtb-related injury.

Expect to see it cited soon on the EWS!
