Going up to Trinity in Nor Cal with the family in the RV in late July- early August and am considering going down the 1 on the return leg home to get some riding in on the Nor Cal coastal area like Mendocino/Fort Bragg or Lakeport areas. Anybody have any 411 on that part of the world? Thanks DT!

I would put Paradise Royale at the top of your list if you go that far north. There is cheap campground camping right next to the trail. The original trail is an awesome 12 mile loop (CW) and they have built another 8 miles that looks cool. It's between Shelter Cove and Garberville. It's hard enough to get to but good enough that if you happen to be nearby I wouldn't pass up the chance.

Mendocino has some nice riding and would have great summer temps but you'd want to book campgrounds early as I think they fill up. I think the campgrounds are in Jackson State Forest. None of the trails are signed but with Trailforks you could ride without getting too lost. You could easily spend 2-3 days exploring, there are lots of trails.

There is a fun ride if you get up to the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park near Crescent City which goes down Ossagon Trail and along the beach, then back to the highway. You close the loop on pavement but you won't be complaining with the big trees. There is a herd of elk that lives on the beach. https://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/415/file ... eb2016.pdf

I also did a ride in Humbolt Redwoods State Park, Look Prairie to Thornton. It was ok, only Thornton was singletrack but it was still a cool ride. There are other trails in the park but I've never seen ride reports of them. Its pretty much unknown to bikes I think.

Further south Annadel State Park has some great riding and should have a campground there. In Calistoga there is another ride Oat Hill Mine Rd that is pretty cool.

Back in the summer of `76 I rode with a small group of roadies from Redding through the Trinity to Eureka, down Hwy 1, and back. It took about two weeks. We camped off the roadside most of the time, except for one night slept in a barn in Ferndale, unfortunately no real cliche farmers daughter story that I recall. However, on the train ride from Orange County to Redding, I did meet some girls. Never-mined, It was a great experience when I was a young buck at 15.

I scoped out Paradise Royale and it indeed seems very appealing...to me. My family might not enjoy waiting for me in the RV at Tonkal camp in a non-service area. I will look into the Jackson forest area. Thanks Evdog and MoFlow!
